Jim Palm

1951 - 2021

February 12, 1951 - September 13th, 2021 Jim Palm, a resident of Lomita, CA "went home" on September 13, 2021 after a hard fought battle with Covid 19. Jim was born to Marguerite and Herman Palm on February 12, 1951 and was raised in Harbor City Pines with his older brother Ron. Jim was a "water baby" and loved surfing at various sites along the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Fittingly, he met his wife to be, Donna Green, in 1968 a party at Cove Beach in Palos Verdes. He graduated from Narbonne High School in 1969 and married Donna, the love of his life, in 1970. Jim worked various jobs for the LA Harbor Department for a number of years. He passed the exam for a Master's License on his first attempt, which is rare and an amazing feat. Jim had a 100 ton Master's License with a 500 ton towing endorsement and was first mate and later Captain on a number of boats in the LA Harbor, including the 85 foot Angels Gate, as well as the tug boats Yankee, Angelina and Arapaho. While he loved running the tugs Jim's goal was to follow in his father's footsteps and work as a longshoreman. He became a proud member of the ILWU and worked as a longshoreman in the Long Beach and LA Harbors from 1985 until he retired in 2012. Jim was a faithful and devoted husband and a loving father and grandpa. He was a devout follower of Christ and an active member of the Rolling Hills Covenant Church. Jim is survived by his wife Donna, daughter Christina Demetriff, son-in-law John Demetriff, grandson John James Demetriff III, and niece Serena Carlson. A celebration of life for Jim will be held at the Rolling Hills Covenant Church at 11 am Saturday, October 16th (2222 Palos Verdes Dr North, Rolling Hills Estates).
