Joseph Good Obituary
Joe Good passed away on July 15, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1931 and moved in 1936 to San Pedro with his parents, Dominick and Anna and his brother, Mike. Joe would spend the rest of his life in the San Pedro/Peninsula area. He graduated from San Pedro High School in the winter of 1949. Soon after, he and Mike opened their first service station at the corner of 9th and Gaffey Streets in San Pedro which later became Joe and Mike Good Automotive. They went on to own and operate a host of other businesses including Peninsula Car Care Center in Rolling Hills Estates, the first full service car care center in the western United States, Good Buick GMC Trucks in Wilmington and Peninsula Pontiac GMC Buick in Torrance. Joe was a life member of the San Pedro B.P.O.E. Elks Club #966. He, his wife, Dottie and their daughter Jenny received the San Pedro Lions Club Ante Perkov Humanitarian of the Year award in 2006. Joe retired in 2008. He married Dottie Cavanaugh in 1960 and they were happily married for fifty-five years. Joe is survived by Dottie, his five daughters, Jenny (Glenn) Zack, Annie (Jean-Paul) Menard, Christina (Chris) Stento, Rosie (Walter) Umana, and Jolie (Jason) Keough, his ten grandchildren, Adam (Maddie) and Ryan Zack, Andrew and Matthew Menard, Max and Sophia Stento, Smokey Roseanne Good, Morgan, Jessica and Carly Keough, his brother, Mike (Toni), his nephews, Michael Jr. and Joseph Good, and grand-nephew, Dominick Good. Joe was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and loyal friend. He will be remembered for his smile and generosity of spirit to all who knew him. Joe touched the lives of so many. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 2100 S. Western Avenue, San Pedro, CA, 90732, The San Pedro Peninsula Cancer Guild, 7 Wagon Lane, Rolling Hills, CA 90732 or San Pedro Elks Building Fund, 1748 Cumbre Drive, San Pedro, CA 90732. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, 4-7 p.m. at McNerney's Mortuary. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, 12:30 p.m. at Mary Star of the Sea Church followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park. Dottie, please know that our family has you and all of your family in our prayers during this time of the loss of your beloved "Joe." We want you to know that both "Joe" and you have significant meaning in the lives of our family throughout the years. My mother Virginia worked for both Joe and Mike as did my father "Gil" and their son Anthony. I was your baby sitter when you just had Jenny and Annie.
