Estelle Edwards Obituary

Estelle passed away on November 6, 2013 with the gentle care of the Balfour Hospice staff. Her home was at The Villas at the Atrium in Boulder, until her final days. She was able to spend time with family and friends as she transitioned to her loving God. Estelle was a sweet, caring, and generous great-grandmother, grandmother and mother deeply loved by all. Estelle was born August 23, 1921 in Dillon SC, the youngest daughter of Henry Bascom Bethea and Lillian Estelle Wright. She is the last survivor of three cherished sisters and one brother. She married McDonald (Mac) Pate Edwards in 1940 in TN and celebrated 56 years of marriage. While Mac served in the Navy in WWII, Estelle worked as one of the first women escrow employees at a bank in Hollywood, CA. Her escrow clients included Clark Gable, Myrna Loy, and Ray Bolger. Mac and Estelle moved to Colorado in 1946. They lived in Denver, Lakewood, Aurora, and Boulder, CO. Estelle served as a St. Anthony Hospital volunteer in the emergency room for over two decades. She was an ardent Denver Bronco fan cheering on her distant relative, Peyton Manning, while attending a Bronco game at age 91. Proud of her Southern heritage she attended many Bethea/Manning family reunions. During her 52 years as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she was active in the student scholarship, tree planting and Indian heritage programs. Estelle's religious and spiritual life was very important to her and was reflected in the way she lived. She had a giving heart and a generous spirit. Her spiritual roots included a grandfather and uncle who were circuit-rider Methodist ministers and over the years she attended Methodist and Unity churches. She and her loving, late husband Mac enjoyed traveling the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. She rode a camel in Israel, swam with the dolphins in Hawaii, and searched for the Lost Dutchman mines in Arizona. Estelle is survived by four children Don Edwards (Dennis), Pam Hinrichs, Anne Turnacliff(Wayne), Susan Baril (Patrick); four grandchildren Kelly Dore (Tim), Joe Amato-Baril (Jennifer), Matt Hinrichs, Brett Turnacliff, and six great-grandchildren: Andrew, Alyssa, Aidan, Jack, Matt and Mitchell. We are thankful for the gifts Estelle shared with us - her ability to live each moment fully, her deep appreciation for nature, her wry sense of humor, and her insight to see the good in every person. You can surmise the character of Estelle Edwards by her extraordinary children, who cared for her lovingly for many years.

Don, who is best known to us in Northern California, has enriched the lives of countless people through his social and business affiliations. His wit, humor, and intellectual achievements are exceeded only by his remarkable kindness and generosity. He acquired these gifts from his loving parents.

This is an inspirational family, and we hold them in our thoughts and prayers as they grieve the loss of a remarkable mother.
