Roger Love Obituary

Roger Love, of Erie, Colorado, passed peacefully at his home at the age of 91. Roger was born September 5, 1932 in the family home in Britt, Iowa to Raymond and Shirley (Lewis) Love. He grew up big brother to his sister Jean. The family moved to Garner, Iowa when Roger was three years old. He graduated from Garner High School and then from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa in 1954 where he received his degree in economics and business. Roger proudly served in the army starting in 1954, as part of regiment 35 of the 25th division of the Army. He was stationed at Schofield Barracks Army base in Oahu, Hawaii until his release from the Army in June of 1956. Roger attended the University of Iowa on the GI Bill. He obtained his master's degree in labor and industrial management in May of 1958. He started his career at Western Electric at the Hawthorn Works plant in Cicero, Illinois. Roger married Janet C. Mullinax on November 2, 1963 and lived in Downers Grove, Illinois. In 1969, Roger transferred to a new AT&T plant in Broomfield and Roger, Janet, daughter Lisa and sons Eric and John, moved to Boulder. Roger served at Grace Commons Church (formerly First Presbyterian Church) in Boulder as an Elder and on Session. He retired from AT&T after 31 years in 1989. For two years he did consulting work for local businesses and then served as Business Administrator at Grace Commons Church from 1991 through 1999. Roger served on the board of The Boulder Presbyterian Manor as Treasurer. He enjoyed playing golf with his sons, fishing in Iowa and Minnesota, and spending time at the family farm outside of Britt, Iowa. Roger, Eric, and John took annual trips to the farm including their most recent trip last October. He devoted his time to attending piano recitals, school choir concerts, coaching Little League baseball, and attended many baseball games and tennis matches. After retirement, he and Janet traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He and Janet took all the children, their spouses, and grandchildren to Mexico for wonderful family vacations on multiple occasions. He enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren Brandon, Amber, Joshua, Dara, Anna, Gray and Tatum. After Janet's death in 2008, Roger spent time with his grandson Joshua picking him up from school every Thursday afternoon from sixth grade on. They spent hours at Barnes and Noble in Boulder reading books, talking about life over a coffee and hot chocolate. Roger recently had the joy of holding his great granddaughter, Elaina Hart. In March 20, 2011, Roger married Vernie Schorr. They enjoyed twelve years together. Roger participated in training events and supported her Character Choice ministry and writing of books and curriculum for the spiritual formation of children. Roger is survived by his wife, Vernie, her two children Diane (Scott) and Steve (Kathy), son Eric (Jennifer) of Erie CO, son John (Sheri) of Kansas City KS, and son in law Jeff Thulin, eleven grandchildren and six great grand children. Roger is preceded in living with Jesus by his wife of 44 years, Janet, his daughter, Lisa, and his sister, Jean Gray. Roger will be interred at Green Mountain Cemetery.
