Betty Weissman

Betty Weissman SchenectadyBetty Weissman passed away on Monday, February 3, 2014 at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness. Born and raised in Schenectady, she was predeceased by her sister, Lillian Friedman; and brothers, Philmore and Melvin Schiff. As a young woman, Betty worked at the Imperial Dress Shop in Schenectady. In later years she worked with her husband at the Peerless Company in Troy and then at the family owned business, the Geranium Tree, in Latham. She also volunteered at Ellis Hospital for many years. At Congregation Agudat Achim, she was a member of the Education Committee and also helped feed AIDS patients. Betty had a love of her home and always enjoyed fresh flowers from a garden tended by her husband, She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Murray Weissman; daughter, Susan (Darryl) Traywick of Denver; son, Peter (Patricia) Weissman of Glenmont, NY; and three wonderful granddaughters, Margo Traywick, Sarah Weissman and Rebecca Weissman. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Services at Congregation Agudat Achim, 2117 Union Street, Schenectady, NY on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 12 noon. Interment will follow at the Agudat Achim Cemetery, Schermerhorn Street in Rotterdam, NY. The period of mourning will be observed at the Weissman residence, 35 Oakmont Street in Niskayuna, NY on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m. Contributions may be made in her memory to Congregation Agudat Achim Education Committee.
