Dr. E. Bruce Nauman

Dr. E. Bruce Nauman, 71, of Niskayuna, died Monday, May 25, 2009, after a short illness. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Bruce received his bachelor's degree from Kansas State, his master's degree from the University of Tennessee, and his doctorate from the University of Leeds in England. A professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Bruce was fiercely devoted to his students, and respected and admired by his colleagues. Bruce was a prolific researcher, scholar, and published more than 150 journal papers, authored five books, sixteen book chapters, and more than 30 other publications. He held six patents related to his research in chemical engineering. Bruce was the recipient of many awards, a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, a co-founder and past president of the North Atlantic Mixing Forum, a member of the Advisory Council at West Point, an editor of the Chemical Engineering Journal and Chemical Engineering Research and Design, and a member of the editorial boards of Trends in Chemical Engineering and the Butterworth's Series in Chemical Engineering. In addition, Bruce was a highly respected expert witness for a variety of legal cases related to patent law, product liability, and others. Bruce is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn; two children, Cindy (Paul) Baglow of Niskayuna and Michael (Rene') Nauman of Little Rock, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Melissa, Brandon, Laurie and Buddy Baglow of Niskayuna, and Alex and Rachel Nauman of Little Rock. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the RPI Chapel, 2125 Burdett Avenue, Troy. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the City Mission of Schenectady, 425 Hamilton Street, Schenectady, NY 12305.
