Frank Palmer Obituary

Frank Phillips Palmer, Jr. 81, of Marysville, OH passed away on August 25, 2023 peacefully with family. Born in Schenectady, NY on October 19, 1941, he was the son of the late Frank and Helen (Warren) Palmer.

Frank grew up in Schenectady attending elementary and junior high school there. His family moved to Oak Park, IL, in 1956, where he graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School. He then attended Dartmouth College, where he played football and joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in History. He continued his studies at the University of Wisconsin where he earned a Master's in History.

Frank married his high school sweetheart Barbara Corkill in 1964 and moved to back to Schenectady. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage until her passing in 2017. Frank became a Social Studies teacher and coach at Scotia Glenville High School. He started the girls volleyball program there and coached football for many years until he stopped coaching to spend more time with his family. Barb and Frank settled in Burnt Hills and lived there for 50 years. An avid sports fan, Frank attended all of his children's athletic events and was a proud BHBL Football and Wrestling Booster. He announced the BHBL Varsity football games for a couple of seasons. "Mr. Palmer" was known by many for his distinct deep and loud voice cheering for SGHS or when his sons and daughter were competing for BHBL. He taught in Scotia for 31 years, and got great enjoyment in running into former students around the area. Frank loved Upstate New York, and he spent many hours driving around the countryside scouting hunting and fishing locations. He was also blessed to have loved several dogs in his life.

Frank's memory will live on with his children Frank (Trish), Julie (Becky), and Kurt (Christine), as well as grandchildren Kaitlin, Ally, Jackson and Meredith and his nieces and nephews. Frank is also survived by his sister, Linda Muralidharan, and many close extended family members.

Calling Hours will be Saturday September 16 from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. Internment will be private.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in his name to East Glenville Fire Company, Inc. 433 Saratoga Road Glenville, NY 12302. Frank and his family were very grateful for the support and compassion the Fire Company provided during their many years in Burnt Hills.

Mr. Palmer was a good man who used common sense and knew when to use it. I wish he had been my history teacher.

He was the best history teacher ever. In 1968 I was in his class and he asked me a question and I said "I´m not sure". He smiled and said that´s ok, and he moved on. He was very kind.
