Henry Jackson Gilman Sr.

GILMAN, Sr., Henry J. Henry Jackson Gilman, Sr., 86, of Woodstock, Georgia died March 24, 2016. Jack was born in Atlanta to Violet Smith and Franklin Duke Gilman. He graduated from West Fulton High School where he was an outstanding athlete and was awarded a football scholarship to the University of Georgia among others. Jack was married to Janelle Barton Gilman for 68 years. He worked for Southern Railroad as a young man and The Life Insurance Company of Georgia for many years until he started his own business in the trucking industry. Terminus Transportation is flourishing today and is run by his two sons. Jack was a member of Sixes United Methodist Church. Jack was notorious as a fun-loving prankster and was a prolific writer. He was passionately devoted to his family and deeply valued his friends. He is survived by his wife, Janelle; two sons, Jack, Jr. "Buzz" Gilman and Gerry Gilman; a daughter, Sue Gilman; three grandchildren, Christopher Gilman, Krystyn Hammond, and Katie Gilman; two great-grandchildren; and his extended family of in-laws, two step-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild. He survived three sisters, Frances, Betty, and Belle; a brother, Tom; a step-brother, Frank, Jr.; and a step-sister, Christine. A celebratory service will be held at Sixes United Methodist Church, 8385 Bells Ferry Road, Canton, Georgia 30114 on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at 2 p.m. followed by a party at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to The Wren's Nest House Museum, 1050 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd, SW Atlanta, GA 30310.
