Joseph Homer Obituary

Joseph (Joe) J. Homer Jr. Scotia Joseph (Joe) J. Homer Jr., 68, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2015 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Joseph J. Homer, Sr. and Rita McCarthy Homer. Joe married his wife, Elizabeth (Betsey) Salisbury, on January 25, 1969. From 1968-1971, Joe proudly served his country as an active member of the Navy. He remained a part of the Naval Reserves for over 20 years. Joe also was a proud lifelong member of the Thomas Corners Fire Department, where he served as a commissioner for the past 15 years. He retired from Bechtel in Schenectady as a mechanical engineer. Joe loved to travel and especially loved to spend his summers in Rubacks Grove in Galway, NY. He enjoyed doing carpentry and playing hockey. However, Joe enjoyed nothing more than his family and his grandchildren. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth (Betsey) Homer; his daughter, Mary E. (Stephen) DiAcetis of Duvall, Washington; and his son, John (Anke) Homer of Golden, Colorado. His surviving grandchildren are Katie and Olivia DiAcetis and Joey and Christopher Homer. He is also survived by his brother, William (Sarah Jeanne) Homer of Lutz, Florida. Visiting hours for family and friends will be held Sunday, January 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 12 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville. Committal service with military honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY. A reception for family and friends will follow, 3 to 7 p.m. at the Thomas Corner Fire Department, 5 Airport Rd., Glenville.
