Mabel Ruth Youngs SchoharieMabel Ruth Youngs, 98, formerly of Driftwood Apartments in Schoharie, died December 14, 2013, at the Cobleskill Regional Hospital. Mrs. Youngs was born September 24, 1915, in Schoharie, NY, a daughter of Charles E. and Gertrude L. (White) Acker. She graduated from Schoharie High School in 1934 with honors. Upon her marriage to her husband, Jesse, she devoted herself to providing a loving home on Route #443 in Schoharie as a homemaker. She later moved to Driftwood Apartments and finally, VanAller's home for adults in Middleburgh. She was a longtime member of the United Presbyterian Church of Schoharie and enjoyed playing cards. Until recently, she also maintained her own checkbook keeping accurate accounting. She was married to Jesse Youngs on June 20, 1938, and until his death on September 16, 1993. Survivors include her niece, Geraldine VanVoorhis of Port Richey, FL; grandnephews, James R. VanVoorhis Jr. of Preston Hollow, Jeffrey VanVoorhis of New Freedom, PA and Matthew VanVoorhis of Greenville, NY. She was also predeceased by a sister, Alice Wharton of Middleburgh in 2010. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 5 at the Old Stone Fort Cemetery, Schoharie.
