Ronald Gagnon Obituary

Ronald J. Gagnon Rotterdam Ronald J. Gagnon, 77, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014 after a long illness, at his home. He was born May 23, 1937 in Albany, NY to Marcel and Dorothea Hughes Gagnon. Ron attended both Blessed Sacrement and Vincentian Institute in Albany. Ron joined IBEW Local 166 in the apprenticeship program in Schenectady, becoming a journeyman electrician. He served as assistant business manager, then became business manager of Local 166 until 1977. He operated his own electrical contracting business, retiring in 1991 due to health issues. On his 17th birthday, Ron joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he proudly served for three years and was honorably discharged on his 20th birthday. Ron enjoyed bowling, was an avid golfer with the Canalis Restaurant Golf League and the Guilderland Elks Lodge League. Mostly, he liked working around his home and being with his family. Ron and his wife, Anne, has been married for 55 years. Besides his wife, Anne M. Gagnon, Ron is survived by his son, Ronald D. Gagnon P.E. (Bethanne) of Cazenovia; and daughter, Wendy Gagnon Sully PhD (Tim) of Omaha, Nebraska; his grandchildren, Louis, Anna, Maria Sully, Justin and Karyn Gagnon. Also survived by his sisters, Diane Szabo (Jeff) of Esperance, Judie Warner (John) of Schoharie, Suzanne Martin (Marty) of Nassau, NY; his brothers, Mark Gagnon (Angeles) of PA and Tom Fake of Galway; also his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Stan and Rita Karpinski of Rotterdam; along with many nieces and nephews. Callings hours will be Thursday (tomorrow) at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam, from 9 to 11 a.m. Services will begin at the funeral home at 11 a.m., following the calling period. Burial, with full military honors, will be at Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ron's name to The Eddy Senior Care, 504 State Street, Schenectady, NY 12305, will be appreciated. Ron's family will be forevery grateful to The Eddy Senior Care (Pace Program in Schenectady) for their excellent care in helping to keep Ron living at home for the last five years. Special thanks to Dr. Barkowski and Dr. Memon. Also, Ron's wonderful nurse, Gay-Star McFarland and all of the very special aides, drivers and workers who were involved with his care. Ronnie was one of those people one had to like. I was fortunate enough to know him for around 50 years and he always made me laugh when I was down. I feel Anne's loss and I pray Our Savior is at her side.
