Rosa Smith Obituary

Rosa Price Smith, 89, of Petersburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2008.

She was born 1918 in Brodnax, Va., to John Henry and Anna Berkley Price. She lived most of her childhood in a Methodist orphanage in Petersburg after the death of parents. Rosa was a longtime, very active member of Smith's Grove United Methodist Church and an active participant in many community affairs. She has been a loving and concerned caregiver for many friends and family members over the years, she was a greatly respected and loving sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. Rosa will be missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband, John Bolling Smith; sister, Frances McKinney; and several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by sister, Josephine Logan of Petersburg; and many nieces and nephews, Jean S. Clarke (Gene), Hugh L. Smith (Ana), John D. Smith (Nona), Charles M. Smith (Sue), for whom she was a second mother, Sidney C. Smith Jr. (Lucy), John A. Smith (Carolyn), Ann R. Terrell, Emily R. Nuckols (Norwood), Lu R. Graham (Ken), Jane R. Zitta (Vic), Gertrude P. Givens (John Harvey), Robert F. Perkins (B.J.); and a host of great-nieces and nephews, friends and special friend Ray Hill.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Smith's Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. David Lewis officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to Smith's Grove UMC Building Fund, 9969 Palmerston Road, Richmond, VA 23236.

The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.
