Mr. Woollard was one of my most memorable teachers from the class of 2002. I was in his ESL chemistry class. Once I asked him, do you think I could be a Pharmacist or Doctor. He looked through his glasses and said I can see that happening. He is the only person I ever asked that question then I never looked back. I wish I could had seem him or spoken to let him know I made it. My condolences to his family. Rest assure he likely inspired hundreds if not thousands of students over his life.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Coach Woollard's death. For me, Mr. Woollard was my distance running coach from freshman indoor track in 1970 until senior track in 1973. He was a major positive influence in my life, since I had lost my father in '68. I looked up to Mr. Woollard, and he always treated me with dignity and respect. He encouraged me and built me as a shy, sensitive young man, who was finally finding something he was good at--distance running. My particular favorite sport was cross-country, which Coach Woollard also favored the most. I loved Coach Woollard, and I know I tried very, very hard for him.
He was a low-key kind of guy, which helped me, since I was high-strung. However, during the races, he was most enthusiastic, and it was a real joy to please my coach with many a victory.
After I was graduated, I took the time to visit Mr. Woollard a couple times, and he was a real friend. I thank God for Mr. Woollard, for his hard work with me as a good coach, for his kindness and patience with me, and for being a wonderful father-figure and role model. I will always, always cherish the many swell memories of my four years with Coach Woollard. I salute you, sir.
My deepest condolences to his widow and children. Thank you for your husband, and the many hours you allowed him to give me and the other guys. He meant so much to us. May Jesus help you, comfort and care for you, and provide for you, as He promised.
Respectfully, Brian Powell, EGHS class of 1973

I am so sad to learn of Mr. Woollard's passing. He was one of my very favorite teachers. I was one of his students in the early '90s in Chemistry and Earth Science. My friend and I always remember Mr. Woollard teach us "don't go in a sandstone cave after it rains." I was a good student and never got in any trouble, but one sunny day, I decided to take an extra-long lunch, and I cut his class. He was super disappointed in me, and I was very sorry I let him down. I never did it again, to him or to any other teacher. I'll never ever forget him. Best wishes to his family and friends. Rest in peace, great man.

My friendship with Jerry (lasting over 45 years)got started in the EGHS faculty lunchroom. One day he got curious about what I was eating and came over to see what it was (buffalo chili--allergy diet). Every lunch period after that he checked to see what I brought to eat and to kid me about it. Conversations of course turned to hunting, boating, cars, fishing in Canada, etc.
During one period of time, the Kentucky Flash and the Ice Man communicated every morning by CB on the way to EGHS.
One summer we worked together putting cedar shingles on the steep roof of a 100-year-old farmhouse.
We kept in contact after retirement, and there are so many memories that will be cherished forever.

Jerry (Wool to me) was a humble and quiet man. He was an excellent teacher and friend to many at EGHS over the course of his tenure there.
I will never forget his friendship nor all the good times we shared together whether at EGHS, fishing in Canada, lunches, workouts, or just hanging out. He was a good friend and will always be my buddy.
My sincere condolences to Pat and his family. I know he is singing along with George Jones to a chorus of "Stand Me Up Against the Juke Box" as I write this heartfelt memory.

Jerry was a teachers' teacher. He brought so much joy and knowledge to the ESL population at Elk Grove High School. He taught biology, physical science, and chemistry to our limited English speaking students. He was a valued colleague and respected teacher. He truly made a difference in thousands of lives.

It was such a joy to work with Jerry. I met Jerry when I was still pretty new to teaching. He was someone I could always ask a question of and he had great advice. He teased me a lot but I knew it was all in fun. He loved teaching and loved the kids. Just thinking of him makes me smile.

I was a student in Mr. Woollard's freshman biology class back in 1972, and he was one of my favorite teachers. He affectionately called our class the 6th period rejects, and we teased him right back. His smile, genuine love of teaching and sense of humor made it a joy to come to class.

Gerry had a great sense of humor and was never afraid to tell you what he thought. He really made a difference in the lives of many ESL students. He was a great colleague and a joy to work with. He made sure you never took yourself too seriously
