Lyle Woodyatt Obituary

Lyle J. Woodyatt Funeral services for Lyle J. Woodyatt, 91, of Dixon, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, at the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon, with the Rev. Dr. Vincent Marrandino, chaplain at Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital, officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Born April 14, 1914, in Sterling, Ill., the son of Elbert C. and Eva (nee Bryson) Woodyatt, he died Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at the Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital, following an extended illness. Lyle married Catherine Reuter, with whom he spent the next 65 years, on Sept. 18, 1940. Mr. Woodyatt received a degree in civil engineering from Chicago Technical College. During World War II he was employed in the construction and operation of the Green River Ordinance Plant. Following the war he joined the Illinois Northern Utilities Company which became part of the Commonwealth Edison Corporation. He was employed by Commonwealth Edison until he retired in 1980. Survivors include his wife; five children, Lyle "Jack" (Marilyn) Woodyatt of Fairfax, Va., David (Joan) Woodyatt of Northfield, Dennis Woodyatt of Villa Park, Sandy Nilles of LaGrange and Sally (Louie) Strange of Lombard; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson, and a great-grandson due in February. Also surviving are one brother, Dean Woodyatt of Seal Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Dorothy Penhollow of Dixon and Joanne (Robert) Knight of East Moline. Lyle was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. A memorial has been established. For information, 815-288-4469.
