RICHARD LAVOY

1936 - 2017

BATAVIA - Richard LaVoy, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 with his loving family by his side. He was born on February 14, 1936 in Aurora, Illinois to Cleo and Pearl (Tuttle) LaVoy. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dianne (McDuffee) LaVoy; his four children, Jeannine (Greg) Pierce of Batavia, Illinois, Brett (Tammie) LaVoy of Sandwich, Illinois, Brian (Alisa) LaVoy of Batavia, Illinois, and Jonathan (Rebecca) LaVoy of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. He was the proud Grandfather of 12 grandchildren who all held a special place in his heart; Justin (Ellen) Pierce of St. Charles, Illinois, Adam (Jessica) Pierce of Tempe, Arizona, Ryan (Kory) Pierce of Talent, Oregon, James (Holli) Reddick of Ft. Lewis, Washington, Jamie Reddick of Sandwich, Illinois, Brandon LaVoy, of Sandwich, Illinois, Taylor LaVoy of Irvine California, Mitchell LaVoy of Sandwich, Illinois, Selim Smlatic of Batavia, Illinois, and Sean, Kyle and Caitlin LaVoy of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin; his 9 great-grandchildren; Evan and Madison Pierce, Asher and Bennett Pierce, Ayda and Porter Pierce, Maxx and Liza Reddick, and Justyne Reddick. He was eagerly awaiting the birth of great-grandchild number 10 in 2018. Additional survivors include brothers and sisters-in-law Sandra McDuffee, Dave and Blythe McDuffee, Kathie and Dave Peterson, Kevin and Gay McDuffee, Charlene and Ron Hinton, and Marianne and Tim Vance. Dick was proceeded in death by his parents, Cleo and Pearl LaVoy; his sister and her husband, Barbara and Jim Clemmons; his first wife, Joyce (Klorig) LaVoy, and her parents, Elmer and Jeanne Klorig; his step-father, Folke Saaf; his father and mother-in-law, Charles and JoAnne McDuffee; and his brother-in-law, Steve McDuffee. He left a legacy of devotion to his family and friends. He was loving, compassionate, giving and selfless. He lived life to the fullest and always made his family his number one priority. He relished sitting in his favorite chair, going for boat rides, and enjoying time with his family in Wonder Lake, Illinois. He looked forward to his yearly fishing trips to Canada and Costa Rica, his summer vacations to Aruba and cruises with his family. Dick owned and operated several businesses in an amazing 60 year career including Batavia Plaza Liquors, One Hour Photo Finish, and Reel Pro Video Productions. In his last days, he cherished time spent with his family. Dick was truly a great man who led by example and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the many people who provided help and support over the past several months. Visitation will be held from 4:30pm-7:00pm on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Moss Family Funeral Home in Batavia. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 7:00pm at the funeral home.
