John J. Mahoney

1933 - 2018

John J. (Murph) Mahoney, age 85, of Naples, FL (formerly of Chadds Ford, PA and Stone Harbor, NJ) peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family on November 1, 2018. Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1933, Murph was son of the late John J. and Isabelle (Gallagher) Mahoney. A 1950 graduate of St Thomas More High School in PA, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955, enjoyed a successful real estate career in both PA and on Marco Island with Re/Max, taught real estate classes at Immaculata University in Philly, and retired in 1988 as owner/partner of Hoopes Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Inc. His life was filled with music, wonderful sense of humor, a passion for life and an unending love for family and friends, especially his beloved wife Marlene. He was a full time resident of Marco Island and Naples FL since 1992. Survived by his deeply devoted loving wife of 41 years, Marlene (nee Weaver), sons John (Brenda), Thomas (Kathleen), Michael (Maureen), and Paul (Carol), daughters Mary Lee Colley (Bruce), Maureen Runyon (Dennis), Laura Hughes (Ed), Laura Schlotzhauer (Dennis) and Cheryl Jones (Billy), nineteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Murph is also survived by siblings Terry August (Bill), Janet Yost, and Diane Curley (Lou), sisters-in-law Kay Mahoney, Faith Holland, and brother-in-law Lloyd Weaver; he was predeceased by brothers Ronald and Joseph (Theresa) and brother-in-law Cy Yost. Murph was a wonderful, happy, caring, giving man. A role model, mentor and an inspiration to all who knew him. A life well lived, he will be missed. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church located at 430 Valleybrook Rd., Glen Mills, PA on November 30, 2018. The family will receive friends from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Edgewood Cemetery in Glen Mills. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.
