Maggie Mae Smith, age 100, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021.
Maggie Boswell Smith was born on March 7, 1921, in Rossville, Tennessee to the late Milton Boswell and Flossie Torrance Boswell. Her parents passed when she was a young child and she was raised by her father's sister, Mae Willie Waller, and her husband, Herbert Waller. She grew up in the same household with two Memphis pastors, the late Rev. Eugene Waller and Rev. Cell Waller.
She attended Mt. Zion School and Fayette County Training School. She excelled in basketball as an extra-curricular activity. She enjoyed fashion and modeling and modeled in several events in the Memphis area. She was known for her great sense of humor and was an excellent cook. She worked several years through the LPN Registry and Rosewood Nursing Home.
She joined Mt. Zion Church in Rossville as a child and later joined Mississippi Blvd. Christian Church as an adult under the leadership of Pastor Blair T. Hunt. She later met and married the Late John Smith and joined him at Martin Memorial Temple CME Church where she served as a Stewardess on the Stewardess Board. Lastly, she joined Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in order to worship with her family, where she served on the Mother's Board until her health declined.
She is the mother of eight children, predeceased by a son, Julius Cain, Jr., and survived by Charles Smith, Claudette Bryant, Margaret Sharp, Gwendolyn Ware, Joan Carhee, Stanley Webster, and Pamela Webster. Also, to cherish her memories, she leaves 24 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She leaves a special neighbor,

A visitation & wake for Maggie will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the Life Remembrance Center of Memphis Funeral Home - Poplar Chapel, 5599 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119.
A final viewing will occur on Friday, December 31, 2021, from 11:00 AM to 11:55 AM and immediately followed by her funeral service & homegoing celebration at 12:00 PM, all at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church - Westwood, 620 Parkrose, Memphis, TN 38109.
A committal service will be held on Monday, January 3, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Memphis National Cemetery, 3568 Townes Avenue, Memphis, TN 38122.
