Family-Placed Death Notice

Donnie passed away on Monday, December 11 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Donnie was born April 17, 1941 in Jesup, GA, the son of Robert and Edna Howard. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Gerald Howard. Donnie grew up in Glennville, Georgia and started his career, with the Glennville Bank. In the late sixties, Donnie and his wife Berniece, moved to Atlanta, Georgia. He was the director of Gainesville-Hall County Concentrated Employment Program and then worked with the Georgia Department of Labor until his retirement in 1997. After retiring he and Berniece relocated to Baxley, Georgia. He was active in the Kiwanis Club and his church, St. Chrysostom Episcopal Church, where he served as Senior Warden. His favorite hobby was photography and he won numerous awards with his photographs. He will be remembered as a loving husband, uncle, faithful friend, and a man of many good deeds. In addition to his wife, Donnie is survived by his sister, Sue Harris, of Brenham, Texas. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 14, 2006, at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Episcopal Church, 2093 Golden Isle Pkwy. W. Baxley, Georgia, Interment will follow at Omega Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1283, Baxley, Georgia 31515. Swain Funeral Home, Inc. Baxley, Georgia (912)367-2242.

So sorry to hear of your loss Berniece. You and I worked together for ACTION Recruitment (Atlanta) back in the early '70s. I remember Donnie coming into the office to see you. I thought you still lived in Douglasville.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. I know that living around family will be a great comfort to you.
