Hugh Harrell Obituary
Hugh Harrell Jr., was born on July 22, 1926, in Hampton to the late Hugh and Cora Harrell. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Hogan.
His sisters, Mable Harrell and Geneva Harrell Dotson; brother ,Raymond Jenkins; and grandson, Randolph Harrell, preceded him in death. He was married to the late Pearl Charity and to the late Beah Richards.
He was the beloved father of Hugh (Anita) Harrell III, Pernell Coleman Harrell, Brenda J. Harrell, Bruce W. (Judy) Harrell and LaTera (Spencer) Chestnut; a cherished grandfather of seven, 10 great-grand's, and one great-great grand.
Many kind thanks to the staff at the Riverside Rehabilitation Center in Hampton and Newport News for the loving care our father received.
A service to celebrate his life will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, in the chapel at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble for the service by 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va. The viewing will be today from 3 to 5 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

I was Mr. Harrell's neighbor. I was saddened to learn that he had passed and that I was not able to see him. I have 3 portraits that he did of me. I will treasure them always. We knew Hugh about thirty years. He's been apart of the family. We knew his dad. We lived next door to his dad for about 10 years. And he was a greater artist.
