Joanna Sweet Obituary
The daughter of the late Willard R. Jeffrey and Frances Mathews Jeffrey, Joan was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 11, 1921. Joan grew up in Scranton, PA, graduating from Central High School, where she met her future husband. While in high school, she was one of twelve girls who formed a bridge club, which continued in one form or another for over 60 years.
After high school Joan attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. She was active as a Girl Scout and camp counselor at Camp Archibald, and later as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader for each of her children. Joan was very active in the Presbyterian Church. She was a Sunday school teacher and active in the Women's Circle. Her quiet demeanor and supportive nature made her a beloved member of the Hidenwood Presbyterian Church in Newport News.
She is survived by her three children, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, and more than a dozen nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either American Diabetes Association (ADA) or American Kidney Fund (AKF).
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 18, at Hidenwood Presbyterian Church, 414 Hidenwood Blvd., Newport News.

Robin, we are so sorry to read of the passing of Joan. You should feel a sense of well being knowing how well you cared for her while she was with you and be thankful for the many years that you shared together.
