Lucille MacLaren Obituary

Lucille MacLaren

Lucille Alice MacLaren passed away peacefully Nov. 21 following a serious head injury sustained in a fall outside her Green Valley home. She was 85 and is survived by her husband, Wallace, and their beloved long-haired Daschund, Heidi. Lucille was preceded in death by their daughter, Deborah, a Spanish dancer who lived in Madrid, Spain and a son, Scott, who was a chief staff scientist at the University of Illinois.

Born in Elyria, Ohio on Feb. 1, 1932, Lucille's writing skills won her a scholarship to Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, where she met her husband. They were happily married for 32 years.

After college, she worked as a writer of television and radio commercials and hosted her own radio program in Akron, Ohio. She and Wallace moved from the Cleveland area to Green Valley in 1995.

Lucille loved watching and photographing birds and animals, an interest she shared with her husband. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and visited the Galapagos Island, Costa Rica, Belize and other countries in search of exotic birds. Among her most memorable journeys included two African safaris and a trip to India to view tigers in the wild.

Lucille will be remembered for her sweet smile and friendly nature. Although a memorial service is not planned, it would be her wish that in lieu of flowers, friends may wish to make a donation in her name to The Animal League of Green Valley, 1600 W. Duval Mine Road.
