Martha Hoffman Eames

1922 - 2016

RALEIGH - Martha Hoffman Eames died peacefully at Springmoor on December 27, 2016. Better known as "Moppy", she was born on December 29, 1922 in Newport News, Virginia to the late Allan Randolph Hoffman and Rose H. Hoffman. A life devoted to God, country, family and friends, she was a member of Greystone Baptist Church and a lifelong Baptist. Since 1943, she was a member of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, Col. Polk Chapter; a Life member of the NC Museum of Art; a Life Patron of the American Needlepoint Guild; a world traveler, Europe, Asia, Africa, North, Central and South America and the USA. She internationally exhibited needlework stitched for various churches, the White House and Blair House in Washington and Sulgrave Manor, George Washington's ancestral home in England. When her vision failed, she knitted baby caps for Rex Hospital's newborns. Moppy and Chuck lived in Sanford for over 40 years where he was VP in charge of Sales with Sanford Brick. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. W. "Chuck" Eames; sister, Rosellen H. Via and brother, A. R. Hoffman, Jr. She is survived by daughter, Charlotte E. Banks and son in law, W. Oliver Banks of Raleigh; niece, Sally Via Matthews of Houston, Texas; nephews, Gilbert Guy Via, III of Williamsburg, VA; Howard Hoffman of Yorktown, VA; and Allan R. Hoffman, III of Jacksonville, Fla. The family would like to thank the staff of the Clayton Wing of Springmoor for the care and love of Moppy. A service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 31, 2016 in the Springmoor Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Springmoor Endowment, 806 Springmoor Drive, Raleigh, 27615.
