Melvin Jefferson Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Melvin Leroy Jefferson Jr., 'Poochie,' son of Melvin and Eloise Jefferson, was born Oct. 3, 1961, in Newport News, Va. Melvin entered into eternal rest Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, free from pains and cares of life. He attended Ferguson High School. He previously worked for Pembroke Construction and Newport News Wastewater Division. He was preceded in death by his sister, Regina Shelby. He leaves to cherish his memories his daughter, Shemieka Mizell, and three grandchildren, Trevon, Shelby and Adaja; three sisters, Celestine (Howard) Crear, Shelia (Lawrence) Jackson and Michelle Jefferson; three brothers, Calvin (Jeanette) Jefferson, Eric and Rodney (Debbie) Jefferson; brother-in-law, Anthony Shelby; grandmother, Sarah Risher; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at Franklin - Fisher Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 5 at First Baptist Church Jefferson Park followed by interment at Hampton Memorial Gardens. Professional services entrusted to the Franklin - Fisher Funeral Home.
