Sue Johnson Obituary

Sue V. Johnson, 65, of Newport News, passed away the evening of September 23, 2022. Sue grew up and lived her life here in Newport News. She spent her career in the Newport News Public School Division. She taught Math at Ferguson, Woodside and finally at Menchville High School. She graduated from Menchville in 1974. She was a proud Monarch. Sue graduated from Radford in 1978 and came right back home to begin her 40-year teaching career. She was the Math Department Lead at both Woodside and Menchville. She dedicated her life to education and her students. Sue also loved her community. She was a proud member of the Junior Woman's Club of Hilton Village and was its President for the 1996-1997 year. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and community.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Marilynn Johnson and her niece Sarah Vreeland. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Patty and Sammy Vreeland; and her niece Katie Locklear and her husband Mark and their son Cannon. Sue is also survived by her great niece Rheagan Love.

Sue loved life and celebrated wherever there was a party. So, as she requested, we will Celebrate her Life on Friday, September 30, 2022, at Warwick Yacht and Country Club at 6 PM. She has requested that we all dress to celebrate her love of the beach and boating. So, pull out your pinks, Lilly Pulitzer, any bright fun colors and join us for this big party! As is fitting, Sue's travel through this life began on September 30, 1956, and we will send her off on September 30. A life full circle and well lived!!

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to enable others to master her much loved subject of Mathematics. Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to support the Math Department at Achievable Dream Middle and High School. To many memories to recall just one where Sue made us all laugh or look at the bright side of things. She was a beloved teacher by her students and peers and NN was all the better for having her in their classroom. I worked with Sue in so many capacities in the Secondary Math departments in NN. Rest in Peace dear friend.

"Only a moment you stayed, but what an imprint your footprints have left on our hearts." -Dorothy Ferguson, poet

The above piece of poetry helps to express the feelings that many of us were able to witness. Our family will truly miss seeing Sue´s warm smiling face and the loving friendship she shared with each one of us over the years.

What a "BLESSING" she was !!!! We thank the Lord for His plan that placed Sue in our lives... The joy, happiness, support and caring that your loved one brought into "many lives" will not be forgotten, but "LOVED"....

Please accept our deepest condolences and know that God loves you and can restore your spirits, give you peace, and strengthen you.

My husband Terry and I met the wonderfully funny "Virginians" in Aruba on vacay several years ago. We´re on the beach, and one of them (Lynn), recognizing our Southern accent,
Said, Hey, where are y´all from? That was the beginning of a great friendship.

They all were a stitch..., Lynn, Stevie,
Rosie, Karen and little Sue...the calm one. I can´t even begin to describe all the laughs and instances we had. Some of my funniest and fond memories. Y´all know what a soft heart Sue had. Could cry at the drop of a hat. She captured my heart. I loved that gal so much. Hard to believe she´s gone. I will, along with my husband Terry will forever be great full for knowing and loving her! And so thankful for the other 4 for always being there for her. Love you Lynn, Stevie, Karen and Rosie ...
