William Deagle Obituary

DELTAVILLE - William "Capt. Ed" Edward Deagle, 92, of Deltaville, VA, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on May 15, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, E.L. & Helen Deagle and sister Mrytle D. Miller. Ed was born on November 11, 1924 in Deltaville, VA and graduated from Syringa High School after which he enlisted in the United States Army serving in WWII. He made landings as an Amphibious Engineer in the South Pacific. Upon homecoming, he married his childhood sweetheart, Katherine Caudle. Ed built and operated Deagle's Marina and worked with his father at Deagle & Son Marine Railway where they built, repaired and restored many boats over the years. Ed was a devoted member of Zoar Baptist Church in Deltaville. He was a volunteer fire department member for many years. Ed served as the Urbanna Oyster Festival Captain in 2012. In his retirement, he constructed all varieties of model boats of which he was widely recognized. In their later years, Ed & Kitty spent their winters at their home in Florida. One of Ed's greatest joys in life was enjoying time with his family and being the best "Pop-Pop" to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ed is survived by his wife of 70 years, Katherine Caudle Deagle; one daughter, Rebecca Deagle Lengua of Urbanna; two grandchildren, Maria Lengua Johnson (RD) of Hartfield, Andrew Lengua (Kendra) of Glen Allen; four great grandchildren, Dale Johnson, Lucie Claire Johnson, Megan Gilstrap and Keagan Lengua; brother-in-law, Virgil Miller; nephews, Bryan Miller and Barry Miller of Deltaville and Bruce Miller of Richmond. Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Thursday, May 18, 2017 in Zoar Baptist Church, 17097 General Puller Hwy, Deltaville, VA with interment immediately following. The family will receive friends one hour prior to church service on Thursday.
