Joanne Doherty Obituary
AGE: 73 •
JOANNE H. DOHERTY, 73, Passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at home with her loving family by her side. Born in Summit, N.J., she was a lifelong resident of Madison. Joanne was a graduate of Madison High School and Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a terrific homemaker. Joanne was a Secretary for the Madison Board of Education for 29 years retiring in 2006. She was a member of the Thursday Morning Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution and a volunteer at St. Huberts Animal Shelter.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 53 years, Stephen J. Doherty, Sr. She is also survived by her devoted children, Stephen J. Doherty, Jr. and his wife Pauline of Andover, William P. Doherty and his wife Lisa of Wall Township, Robert T. Doherty and his wife Jennifer of Roxbury Township and Linda (Doherty) Finelli of Madison. Loving grandmother of Stephen, Connor, Mackenzie, Dr. William, Jr., Heather (Doherty) Gaskill, Christina and Bridget Doherty, Steven and Robert Finelli.
Visiting hours are Tuesday, January 27, 2015 from 2:00PM-4PM and 7PM-9PM. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 9:00 AM at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison, N.J. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent Martyr Church, Green Village Road, Madison, N.J.. Interment will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery, Noe Avenue, Madison, N.J. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to Carol Simon Cancer Center, 100 Madison Avenue, Morristown, N.J. 07960 or St. Hubert's Animal Shelter, Woodland Road, Madison, N.J. 07940.

My sympathy to you Steve and your family. Joanne sat behind me in home room. She was quiet and a little shy but we laughed a lot and sometimes the HR teacher chastised her when I was the talker. Then we'd giggle some more. She was kind and didn't have a mean bone in her body. I marveled at how she kept every hair on her head in a neat Page Boy while I had wild fly away hair. I am glad to see that she had a large and loving family. She deserved it. My love and condolences to all of you.

I am so sorry to hear about Joanne. We started as good friends at Kings Road Elementary. Madison High was lucky to have her as a member of the Class of 1959. My prayers are with all the family.
