JOHN BARRY
AGE: 77 HARDING TWP.
John T. Barry, 77, of Harding Twp., N.J. passed away Wednesday January 5, 2011 at his home. Son of the late William and Mary Barry, he was born October 19, 1933 at All Souls Hospital in Morristown. He graduated from Morristown High School in 1951 and was a graduate of the New Jersey State Police Academy. He served in the U.S. Marines and was honorably discharged in 1953. A police officer in Morris Plains and Harding Township, he retired in 1985 after serving as a correction officer, a sheriff's officer, a supervisor of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and a Captain and Commander for the Division of Telecommunications in the Morris County Sheriff's Department. After retirement, he worked as a security guard. He was the past president of the Morris County Superior Officers Association and a life member of the New Jersey Police Benevolent Association. John was a true Irishman. Gregarious and outgoing, he always enjoyed meeting and talking to people. He was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed watching golf on TV, cooking on his grill, traveling to Florida, listening to country music, working around the house and biking and swimming when he was able to.
He is survived by his wife Joan Barbara (Sanders) of Harding Twp., to whom he was married for 53 years; his daughter Deborah James and her husband Tom of Succasunna; his daughter Donna Smorol and her husband Robert of Clark; his daughter Nancy Kinnaman of Lewisville, TX.; his son John P. Barry and his wife Lori Riley of Storrs, CT; his son Charles Barry and his wife Kathy of Hackettstown; and his son Kevin Barry and his wife Robyn of Bernardsville, and 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by 13 brothers and sisters: Sister Virginia Ann Barry, Joseph and his wife Patricia Barry, William and his wife Barbara Barry, Edmund and his wife Emma Barry, Earl and his wife Jean Barry, Therese Terreri, Richard and his wife Nancy Barry, Phillip and his wife Patricia Barry, Kathleen and her husband Merritt Budd, Frances and her husband George Berg of Succasunna, David and his wife Laura Barry, Stephen and his wife Susan Barry, Suzanne and her husband Michael Murphy, and an uncle Jerry Richard. He was predeceased by his brother Michael Barry and Michael's wife Agnes, a brother-in-law, Richard Terreri, and a son-in-law Scott Kinnaman. The family would like to thank Kwabena Atta-Sampaney for his care of John in his final years.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Church on Blue Mill Road in New Vernon on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to call at the Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains on Monday, January 10, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to PBA Local 151, PO Box 9157, Morristown, NJ 07960.

Dear Barry Family:
We are sorry for the loss of a great man, a good friend and Uncle... Uncle John was a very kind and friendly man. He made us laugh and always put a smile on our face. He will be missed by us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.
May God bring you peace and comfort in the happy memories and knowing that John is at rest in Glory with Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
