Bashakes, Catherine P., age 91, passed away on August 15, 2014. Born August 14, 1923. Daughter of the late Peter Scarmoutsos and the late Evangeline Papajohn. Beloved wife of the late Louis E. Bashakes. Loving mother of Emmanuel (Crystal), Peter (Patricia) and James (Laura). Proud grandmother of Andrew (Aimee) and Adam. Member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church for 59 years, a member of Philoptichos and the Daughters of Penelope, and a long time provider of cancer pads for the community. Growing up in Corning, New York, Catherine worked in the family candy store, Crystal Confectionary with her father, Peter, sister, Stella, brother, Emmanuel and soon to include cousins from Greece. Later, while visiting her sister in Ann Arbor, she came to meet Louis, married and moved to Royal Oak to begin her new life as a housewife and mother. Catherine later joined the Royal Oak School District as a bilingual aide assisting students in learning the English language. Visitation Sunday 12-6 p.m. with a 5 p.m. Trisagion service at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Rd. (4 blocks E of Woodward), Royal Oak. Instate Monday 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 760 W Wattles Road, Troy.
