Lana Metoyer Obituary

Dr. Lana Aldridge Metoyer

OPELOUSAS - Dr. Lana Aldridge Metoyer

February 6, 1969 - July 28, 2016

"Let not your heart be troubled: Ye believe in God, believe also in me."

John 14:1-2

A most beautiful and blessed soul was called to heaven on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA. Dr. Lana Aldridge Metoyer was born February 6, 1969 in Opelousas, LA to the union of Nahum and Eloise Aldridge. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her savoir. She was a devoted lifelong member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, a church once pastored by her paternal grandfather, Rev. Frank Aldridge.

Dr. Lana Metoyer was educated in the public schools of St. Landry Parish and earned her high school diploma from Opelousas High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. She earned her Medical Doctorate Degree from Louisiana State University in New Orleans, LA.

On April 8, 1995, she was united in marriage to Dr. Derek J. Metoyer. This occurred during her senior year of Medical School. She, along with her husband, went to complete a three-year residency in Family Medicine, before returning to Opelousas to found Metoyer Family Medical Center in 1998. To the union of Dr. Lana Aldridge Metoyer and Dr. Derek Metoyer, three children were born, a daughter, Arianne and two sons, Derek, II and Adam.

Dr. Lana Aldridge Metoyer could not have been anything but a blessed child. She was born to loving parents, and surrounded with kindness by her extended family. She was nurtured by a Christ-centered, St. Mark United Methodist Church family. She was also polished and shined by the wonderful families on Julia Street.

Dr. Lana Aldridge Metoyer also could not have been anything but a physician. She soothed countless souls with her knowledge, wisdom and understanding. She was a Board-Certified Family Physician and a member of the Louisiana and American Academies of Family Medicine. She had a firm belief in education and her love of learning was surpassed only by her love of God and family.

Some of you may remember her as the little girl selling snowballs on Julia Street. Some of you may remember her as a teenager helping her mother give piano lessons. Others may remember her as the young dedicated physician-in training. All remember her as a kind, compassionate individual whose greatest gift was her love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Nahum Aldridge & Mrs. Eloise Lilly Aldridge.

We will celebrate Dr. Lana Metoyer's life and legacy in St. Mark United Methodist Church in Opelousas, LA at 11:00 AM, with viewing beginning at 7 AM on Saturday, August 6, 2016.

She will be laid to rest at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA. Rev. Junius Egby will officiate the service.

Cherishing her memory are her husband of 21 years, Dr. Derek Metoyer; a daughter, Arianne Metoyer; two sons, Derek "DJ" Metoyer, II and Adam Metoyer all of Opelousas, LA; her mother-in-law, Leona Nash of Opelousas, LA; her father-in-law, Marvin Metoyer of New Orleans, LA; a sister, Candace Aldridge Cannon (James) of Toomsuba, MS; a brother-in-law, Steve Metoyer of Opelousas, LA; a sister-in-law, Tina Metoyer of New Orleans, LA; a niece, Courtney Metoyer of New Orleans, LA; three aunts, Maud Hillard (Rev. Clarence), Ellen Lafayette (Willard) and Rev. Brunetta Shamlin (Dr. Gwynn) all of Baton Rouge, LA; two great aunts, Celesta Marshall of Houston, TX and Mary Ruth Whitlow (Joseph) of Opelousas, LA; a special cousin, Jean Smith of Grambling, LA; four Godchildren, Marvin Price, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA, Zion Johnson of Plaisance, LA, Madison Wilson of Opelousas, LA and Miles Lee of Detroit, MI and a host of extended family members and friends.

Our hearts are filled with sorrow but God's will has been done here on earth for Dr. Lana Aldridge Metoyer.

Lana was one of the best friends that I had at LSU. Oue shared love of music made us great friends. I was shocked in church a few years ago to find that the world has lost such a loving, beautiful soul. We had the opportunity to speak with each other a few years long ago. I pray for continued blessings for her family.

Your beautiful spirit and smile will be missed. You always found time to encourage others no matter how you felt or what you were going through. You are an angel and true inspiration. An authentic definition of what the word "servant" means. Earth's loss is truly heavens gain! My prayers go out to the family. Hang in there it will get better.

Dr. Metoyer, you were such a kind, and compassionate person. You were my mother"s doctor until she passed away seven years ago. We'll never forget you. You always took the time to explain everything to us concerning her health. That really meant the world to us. That's a rare quality that you don't find in a lot of physicians.
May God bless the family and friends you left behind and give them the strength to live on.
Peace be with you and your family.

I found myself along with my husband, parents and 27 other relatives in Opelousas as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Lana & Derek Metoyer showed great compassion for my parents who were not only physically illing but also mentally damaged due to losing so much at such a late age in life. She was truly a ray of sunshine for such a dark time in our lives and lived a life worth celebrating. I know she is welcomed into heaven with open arms. Much prayer and love to her family. Our sincerest condolences to Dr. Derek Metoyer and his children in the death of his dear wife, Dr. Lana Metoyer. Lana was highly favored by the Lord, a beautiful and loving person inside as well as outside. Our prayers are with you and your family. My husband performed your wedding ceremony and Mrs. Eloise Aldridge was a dear friend who took me under her wings and asked me to pray for you and Lana many years ago. After all these years, I have continued to pray for Lana and Derek and their family. Moreover, I will continue to pray for you and the children. May God continue to favor and bless you and your family and may God see you through this time in your life. Rev. & Mrs. James F. (Mildred B.) Haynes
