News Death Notice

JOHN, Sr., Robert Eugene 77, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016 after a brave battle with cancer. He was born in Dayton, OH and proudly served his county in the United States Navy. He was proud to be on the Inaugural and 2nd Mediterranean Cruise of the USS Saratoga. While in the Navy, he met his beloved wife of 56 years. They resided in Jacksonville and Fruit Cove for the past 39 years. He was loved and respected by all that knew him. Bob was a family man and loving husband, father, friend and will be missed deeply by all. He spent his career in I.T. beginning at Prudential, Elder Beerman, Allstate Pipe Supply, AT&T, and Citicorp. Upon retirement Bob became a master gardener and an avid beekeeper. Gardening was his passion and he loved nature. He was preceded in death by his father, Osceloa John; mother, Florence Matz; step-father, John Matz; brothers, Warren S. Honious, Charles Honious. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Lou (Dickenson) John; son, Robert E. John Jr. (Donna); daughters, Cynthia Roseler (Joe), Elizabeth Kemp, Michelle Wright; sisters, Jeannette Mitchell, Melody Berry, Pamela Huffington; 9 grandchildren, Kenton Cook, Raleigh John, Zachary Patterson, Amanda Roseler, Michael Roseler, Courtney Kemp, Wesleigh John, Leighem John, Nicholas Wright; one great-grandchild, Charlotte Cook; and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 with Visitation one hour prior to service in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32223. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207. Memorial contributions can be made to Sarcoma Foundation of America at https://www.curesarcoma.org/donate/. Well babe tomorrow (August 1st) is our 57th anniversary. You are not here to celebrate with me, but I know you are here in spirit, I feel it daily. Remember last year you were in rehab at Bartram after your surgery at Mayo and we celebrated there. Well this year I will celebrate for both of us and feel your presence...oh by the way, I finally finished with the ring project we were working on back in March and they turned out absolutely beautiful. I will wear them "forever". Thank you. you knew I had always wanted this and you made it happen. I just wish you were here to enjoy.

Dear Daddy,
You taught me the meaning of unconditional love and had such a zest for life. My heart is broken that you are no longer here with us to make us laugh, be silly, give us a hard time, cheat at thumb wrestling and teach us about nature and all the knowledge you had. You are missed TERRIBLY and will live on through all of us & all the things you taught us. You were more like a Dad to Zachary and Nicholas than a Grandpa, which I am so grateful for. I was saddened to see Bob's obituary in the paper today. I worked with Bob for many years at AT&T and Citibank. I so remember how happy he was to be retiring so that he could work with his bees and in his gardens. May he rest in peace.
