James JOHNSON Obituary

James Sylvanus Johnson James Sylvanus Johnson, age 75, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2004 of bacterial endocarditis surrounded by his loving family. Jim, born on July 2, 1928, in Walnut Grove, MS, graduated in January 1951 with a civil engineering degree from Mississippi State University. During a dynamic 40-year career with the DuPont Company engineering construction division, Jim worked in Aiken, SC, Richmond, VA, Brevard, NC, Camden, SC, Martinsville, VA, Luxembourg, Lyon and Mulhouse, France, then transferred to Wilmington in 1977. Following retirement in 1991, Jim enjoyed traveling, hiking with the Wilmington Trail Club members, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, DuPont Hospital for Children, the Riverfront Arts Center and his church. He also attended the University of Delaware's Academy of Lifelong Learning. Preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Allie; and his first wife, Joyce Kruse, Jim is survived by his wife of 31 years, Nancy; his children, James S., Jr. and his wife, Jenice of Nashville, TN, Ralph K. of Las Vegas, NV, Allison Ayers and her husband Jason of Wilmington, Jason L. and his fiancvá, Andrea Sepers of Newfield, NJ; and his 4 beautiful grandchildren, Kelly, Sierra, Isaac and Tanner of Las Vegas. Jim's life will be celebrated at 2 pm, Saturday, January 24 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Millcreek Hundred. Memorials in thanksgiving of Jim's wonderful life may be made to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church Endowment Fund, 2800 Duncan Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808.
