Age 89, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully in Christiana Hospital after courageously fighting a short illness.
Stanley was a Army veteran of WW II who proudly served his country. He was a long time member and past president of the Greenhill Lions Club. Stanley was a master plumber and owned and operated Stanley Plumbing and Heating Co. for over 60 years. He was an avid golfer and gardener. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting and special events.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Mary Szymanski. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rhea C. (Lawrence) Birch; his daughter, Rhea Markwood; his son, Jack Birch (Beverly); his grandchildren, Deborah Markwood (Tom Pitts), Jim Markwood (Holly), Kristin White (Bill), Karen Klemaszewski (Michael), Jack Birch (Danna), his great-grandchildren, Ryan, Nathan, and Justin Markwood, Gillian and Evan Klemaszewski, Kayla Birch, and Nicolas White. Stanley is also survived by his sisters, Mary Ratasiewicz, Margaret Amatuzio, Frances Kendzierski, and Florence McGuire.
Relatives and friends may call at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road on Sunday, November 30, from 2-4 pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 1, at 11 am, at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Silverbrook Memorial Park, Wilmington.
