Lorie Dewey Obituary
Lima - On January 11, 2018 after a long illness, Lorie passed surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her parents, Robert and Bonnie Dengler. Survived by her beloved husband, Bob Dewey; loving sons, Chris Dewey and Ben (Lauren) Dewey; family pug, Jinx; brother, Wayne (Beth) Dengler; sister-in-law, Cathy (Tom) Napier and brother-in-law, Jim Dewey; many nieces, nephews, close friends and her SOTA family.
In 2015, Lorie ended a two-decade career teaching music theater and drama at the Rochester School of the Arts. She touched thousands of students' lives and will be remembered as an inspiration to all. In 2005, she received the League Educator Apple Award in recognition for her efforts on behalf of SOTA in collaboration with Touring Broadway.
Family and friends are invited to call FRIDAY, January 19, 2018 from 2-4 & 6-9 PM at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services (3325 Winton Road So). A Memorial service will be held privately. A celebration of Lorie's life will be held, February 10 at 2PM at (SOTA) School of the Arts (45 Prince Street, 14607). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Friends of SOTA for a scholarship in Lorie's honor. (Please specify scholarship for Lorie. Mailing address, 45 Prince St, Rochester, NY 14607). Lori was a member of the Rochester Athletic Club. I had the pleasure of putting her through her paces as her personal trainer.I was amazed at her dedication to her exercise routine. With her work routine of long hours she very rarely missed her 7:00am appts with me.When she talked about the play that she was putting together with the SOTA students, you could just tell how much she loved those students. She was an inspiration to everyone she knew and will be dearly missed.Love you Lori. I am sure you are working on you next play already.

Love you Mama Dewey!! When nobody thought I could b Danny Zuko as a Black Kid.. You made me and everyone believe.. one the most challenging roles I've ever paid came out to be one of my best shows!! I've done over 30 shows with Mama as my director of some sort and every experience with her was priceless.. You're gone now and all I have is memories and I'm mad you didn't get to see me on Broadway but I know you'll b watching me from above the day it happens.. Love you mama!! Wish I had one last chance to get one of your Hugs!!

Lorie is now the "ghostlight" on the SOTA stage. She was such an inspiration to all who knew her. I wouldn't guess how many student lives she impacted. Most thought of her as a second mom. Lorie, may you rest peacefully, out of pain, and directing the best Broadway musical that heaven has ever seen. I will always cherish the times we had together. Thanks for inspiring me. Mostly though, thank you for being such a wonderful friend. You were always giving, and never expected anything in return. I will think back fondly on our hundreds of adventures together and I will smile because of you, my dear friend. I love you, Lorie.
