Sterling Weaver Obituary
Pittsford
- Sterling L. Weaver died on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. He was 87 years old.
Sterling was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Rockville Centre. He is predeceased by his parents, Dana and Gladys Weaver, and sister, Lorraine Weaver DeVito.
After graduating from Amherst College and Columbia Law School, Sterling joined the law firm of Nixon, Hargrave, Devans, and Doyle. He became a partner in 1965.
An active member of the Rochester Community, Sterling was President of the Landmark Society of Western New York; The First Unitarian Church of Rochester, NY; The Center for Environmental Information; The Eastman Dental School; and was chairman of Tax Sections of the Monroe County Bar Association, the NY State Bar Assn. and the American Bar Assn. He was influential in developing GEVA and the Genesee Country Museum. To all his endeavors he brought energy, creativity, insight, and wisdom. His leadership skills and compassion for others endeared him to his coworkers. He enjoyed sports, literature, art, and nature. But most of all he loved his family and friends.
Sterling is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Jean Carty Weaver, their 4 children; Leslie (Larry) Petzing, Lisa (Henry) Bejian, Loren Weaver and Holly Wilson, David (Jen) Weaver, and 7 grandchildren; Drew (Louisa) Petzing, Dean Petzing, Jessica Bejian, Greg Bejian, Dana Weaver, James Weaver, and Anna Weaver.
Family and friends are welcome to join in a Celebration of Sterling's life on October 6th, 10:30 am at The First Unitarian Church of Rochester, 220 Winton Rd. South, Rochester, NY. Memorial contributions in Sterling's memory may be made to the First Unitarian Church or the organization of your choice. To share a memory or photo of Sterling visit

Dear Jean and family,
My deepest sympathy to you on the death of Sterling. May he rest in peace eternally.
My George was always grateful to Sterling for all he did for him as a young associate at NHDD and throughout his working years there.
I always enjoyed Sterling's quick wit and warm smile. I need not tell you what a special man he was. His spirit lives on in the memories of all he touched.
