William Raymond Obituary

Raymond,

William L.

Greece: Peacefully, Monday November 5, 2012 after an extended illness. He was 91. The son of Saida and Harlow Raymond, Bill, as he was called, grew up in Webster, New York, served his country in the Coast Guard and retired from Kodak after 35 years. Bill's volunteer efforts included Greece Volunteer Ambulance, House of Mercy and FISH (Friends in Service Here). He was a founding member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Mason Raymond; his children Marybeth, Debra, Pamela, William, Jan, Timothy, and Phillip. He adored his 15 grandchildren and 5 Great grandchildren.

Those who were lucky enough to know Bill - and he considered everyone a friend - knew a man who loved his family, friends and his faithful companion, Korki. Bill's active life, kindness and generosity have enriched the lives of all who knew him. We will all miss his warm smile, his wit, his ease of friendship, and his endless ability to love.

Friends may call Friday (Nov. 9th) 4-7 PM at Vay- Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Road, Greece Chapel. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday 11:00 AM at St Charles Borromeo Church. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The House of Mercy in his memory.

I have a funny memory of Bill. We were either watching home movies or a show on TV and Bill answered the phone. I remember Betty asking Bill after a lengthy talk on the phone, "who were you talking to?", his reply was " It was a wrong number". That was Bill Raymond a talker to strangers.

Hi Poppa- Thought of you on Halloween. I always loved coming to your house every year, having your amazing homemade donuts (still the best I ever had) and going through and trading our candies on the floor. I called Nonni yesterday to say hi and reminded her how much we loved to come to your house. She said she always loved when we rang the door bell and said Happy Halloween. Love and miss you so much!

Your light lives inside us every day. Your love guides us in our darkest moments. I felt you all around at my wedding and was so blessed to have the connection that I have with you to be able to share the cake story with all of our guests. It truly was a blessing. Seeing your rosary around my bouquet was the beginning of my tears that day. Tears of happiness because I knew you were with me. We made sure we returned home from the wedding and mini honeymoon so we could be home for Halloween to carry on your tradition with making the homemade donuts. Man were they a hit. You have left us all with so many traditions, so many examples to show love, and so many inspirations to live out. I will forever be thankful for everything you have taught me. I love you and miss you, but enjoy still having you as close to my heart as you are now. xoxo

Agree Deb, two years is nothing as Dad still lives with me in his influence and I think often about how we reacts to day-to-day activities. Sometimes funny, sometimes silly, but always puts a smile on my face...maybe sometimes a smirk...ha

Dad,
A day, a year, a minute its all too long, too fast, too final. I was a awfully lucky boy, but I don't feel quite so lucky now.
I so hope you have been reunited with your parents and Uncle Jack, and the rest of your other family. Miss you terribly, but see enough to know you are still around. I guess I'll take that.

Thank you, Nancy and June, for your kind thoughts. I smiled remembering the "wars" between Bill and Lee Clark - seeing who could be first out in the morning and who could plow the most driveways! love Betty

Hey Bill as I sit here typing away and recall my growing up in the neighborhood what comes to mind is that bright wide smile and shinning eyes of yours. You were always vigilant to all that went on and always there to lend a helping hand. When my dad passed away you . mr and mrs clark and don always checked with me to see how mom was doing and you have no idea how good that made me feel. I know you were concerned and you were my eyesand ears when she was alone and for that I will ever be grateful. I will miss seeing you and corky tooling down the street but moreover I will truely miss a great friend who I always respected and loved. I know God is smiling on you and that there is spot for you in heaven. My heartfelt condolences go out to Betty and the Raymond clan. Take care my good friend.. Bernie DeCamilla

Sincere sympathy, prayers and heavy hearts to Mrs. Raymond and the family from the Figenscher family. Mr. Raymond was a wonderful man who always had a big smile and kind words for all of us in the neighborhood. My mother asked me this morning to share her memories and gratefulness to Mr. Raymond for helping my parents, June and Louis Figenscher, with their driveway during the snowy Rochester winters for many years. She told me this, "Bill knew your dad didn't have a snowblower and he always came right over to help us out and clear our driveway after it snowed! Your dad would try to shovel, but Bill would come right over and help every time! I was so glad that he did that. He was a very good neighbor to us for over forty years." She wanted his family and grandkids to know he did this for Dad, a true friend. My family's memories of Armstrong Road neighborhood, along with Our Lady of Mercy Church and school, always include Mr. Raymond's happy smile. The Lord called up one of the good guys... peace and love
