Nathan Weatherly Obituary

Nathan Scott Weatherly

Nathan Scott Weatherly, 36, left this world on October 20, 2017, in Hutchinson, Kansas. Nate was born in Gainesville, Texas, on December 1, 1980, to Joan (Stelloh) and Dr. Mickey Weatherly. Nate "the Skate" was our golden boy, whose mischievous laughter, over-abundance of energy and bright, blonde hair drew attention wherever he went.

Nate lived at Lake Kiowa his entire childhood. There, he developed his love for the water, fishing and golf, and spent countless days golfing with his Dad. He later worked several years on the golf course as a greenskeeper. Growing up, his brother, Ryan, was his constant companion, and they shared a love for swimming, skiing, boating, and fireworks. Having successfully avoided completing a single homework assignment, and having reported home his belief that he had made an "A" on each test he took, Nate graduated from Callisburg High School in 1999. He received his associates degree from Grayson County College in turf management in 2003.

Nate was a talented artist, photographer, and musician who could play the opening guitar riffs from hundreds of rock songs. He was a self-taught, left-handed blues guitarist, amassed an extensive collection of recorded music and treasured hearing live performances. David Gilmore and Axl Rose were his guitar heroes. He loved dogs, watching nature documentaries, and taking photographs of lightning storms over Lake Kiowa. His favorite vacation was a 2002 trip to Costa Rica, where he dreamed of returning. Nate had a gift for sharing his truest self and making us laugh. His family and friends could always count on him to find the humor in any situation.

Nate is survived by his mother, Joan Henry, and stepfather, Ray Henry of Whitesboro, Texas; brother and best friend, Ryan Weatherly, and nephew, Elliott Weatherly of Gainesville, Texas; second mother, Grace (Groce) Weatherly of Corinth, Texas; stepbrother, Cory Hubbell of Holly Hill, Florida; stepsister, Carissa Venuto of Corinth, Texas; stepbrother, Walter Hubbell of Dallas, Texas; and many, many aunts, uncles and cousins who adored him.

Nate was tragically preceded in death by his father, Mick Weatherly, in July 2012; stepfather, Tom Hubbell, in 1999; and his beloved boxer, Yoda.

There will be a gathering to celebrate the life of Nathan Weatherly on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at 2:00 PM at the Lake Kiowa Lodge, 901 Kiowa Drive West, Lake Kiowa, Texas 76240. Memorial donations may be made to North Texas Boxer Rescue or the North Texas Chapter of the American Society for Suicide Prevention.

There are no words to express the sadness in our hearts. Nate was one of a kind. The memories of watching him grow from a toddler to a young man continuously go through our minds. His absence will only mean that he has left our side, but not our hearts. May all of you feel the comfort of God's love through our prayers and our friendship. Hugs
