Kathryn Nichols Obituary

Nichols, Kathryn
1932-2012
Kathryn June Nichols passed away on March 14, 2012 in Aurora, Colorado. Kathryn (Kay), loving wife of Frank, was born Kathryn June Anderson to the late Ivan and Lillian Anderson, February 25, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Evanston High School. Kay attended Ripon College, Ripon Wisconsin, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with a degree in journalism. Kay was happily married to Frank C. Nichols for 56 years and enjoyed living in Colorado since moving to Golden in 1962. Kay was a travel agent and also wrote all of the movie narrations for the travel films that she and her husband produced. Her childhood dream of writing for National Geographic was realized when that organization showed five of the films that used scripts she authored. She loved to travel and was passionate about world history. She enjoyed over 95 trips around the world with her husband and travel agency professionals. Kay loved to hear local jazz musicians play live music around the Denver area. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose kind and caring ways touched the lives of her family and others who were fortunate enough to have known her. Kay will be remembered for her boundless curiosity and pleasant demeanor. Kay was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority, the American Association of University Women and the United Methodist Church. Kay is survived by her husband, Frank, and brothers: Theodore Anderson of Ft. Collins, CO and Robert (Peg) Anderson of Rockport, MA. She was preceded in death by her brother Ivan Anderson. Beloved mother of three children: Jeffrey (Kay) Nichols of Issaquah, WA, Randy Nichols of Denver, CO and Sally (Ken) Maydew of Niwot, CO. Loving grandmother of four grandchildren: Kaitlyn Nichols, Jillian Nichols, Dutch Maydew and Dana Maydew. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation. Any Wells Fargo Bank location can accept a donation by referencing "Kathryn Nichols Memorial Fund". A memorial service honoring Kay's life will be held Monday, April 2, 2012 at 2:30 PM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 E. Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, Colorado 80014, (303) 745-4418. I am saddened to hear about the loss of this wonderful woman. Her husband and herself were some of the most wonderful people you could ever incounter. I remember spending summers at their house in Aurora and playing with their grand children Dutch and Dana. Her husband and herself always made me feel welcome like I was one of their grandchildren. I cannot believe she is gone. I will always remember her for her lovely demeanor and how she would always call me Mary Kay even after I corrected her a hundred times. I will miss her. Your family is in my prayers.

Love, MaryBeth Elder.
