MYRNA GORMAN Obituary
A long-time resident of Lakewood, CO and retired nurse, died Sept. 10, 2010 at the age of 94. Beloved by her family and friends alike, she is survived by her son Darrell Gorman (physician) and daughter-in-law Judy Gorman of Lakewood, grandchildren Kimberly (Erik) Edwards of Lakewood, Heather (Jeffrey) Spillane of Atlanta, GA, William Gorman of San Francisco, CA, as well as two great grandchildren Emma Edwards and Tessa Spillane. Myrna was preceded in death by husband Alva "Al" Gorman and her son Richard Gorman. Myrna grew up near Montrose, CO on a small family-owned farm. She left for Denver in 1934 to attend the Denver Training School for Nurses at Denver General Hospital (now known as Denver Health Medical Center), graduating in 1937. Myrna's nursing career spanned over 40 years and was quite varied. She worked at 2 local community hospitals, Lutheran Medical Center and St. Anthony's Hospital. Myrna was head nurse of the first ICU at Lutheran Hospital and was a supervisor nurse in the area of coronary care at St. Anthony's. Along the way, she received much recognition for her nursing talent and teaching abilities. Myrna embodied all of the ideals of a dedicated and compassionate bedside nurse. In her personal life, she was happily married to Al Gorman, a Colorado School of Mines graduate, for over 50 years. In the early years of their marriage Al's work as an engineer took them to places outside of Colorado such as Oklahoma and Alaska. They returned to Colorado in 1951 and settled in their home in Lakewood where they raised their two sons and lived out their lives. Myrna Gorman will be lovingly remembered for her sparkling personality, her positive attitude and adventuresome spirit. She was a loving wife, mother, and a genuinely wonderful person to all who knew her. Myrna often expressed how fortunate and "lucky" she was to have lived such a full and interesting life. However, it is her family and friends who were truly the lucky ones for having her grace and enrichment of their lives for so many years. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions can be made in Myrna Gorman's name to The Listen Foundation, 6950 East Belleview Ave, Greenwood Village, CO 80111. www.olingerwoodshchapel.com
