Philip Doerner

1927 - 2018

Phil was born to Frank and Gertrude Doerner and raised in St. Cloud, MN. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Navy and served at the end of WWII. After the Navy, he left for Denver to study accounting at DU where he met and fell in love with his wife Joan (Madden). They were married in 1952 and have been side by side ever since. After a long career in accounting and software, Phil retired from Hewlett-Packard in 1985. Phil loved the mountains and especially enjoyed skiing and fly fishing. His favorite author was James Thurber and he had a deep affection for classical music. He taught himself to paint and delighted in teaching art to others. He was also a talented and inventive woodworker. In addition to his wife Joan, Phil is survived by a sister, Dorothy Doerner of Rapid City SD, a brother Monsignor Linus of Rancagua Chile, seven children, Margaret Keck (Buck), Kathy Miller (Craig) Carol Doerner-Long (Rich), Rosemary Doerner (Fred Buenning), Frank Doerner (Betsy), Gina Doerner (Cale Redpath), Susan Sabbagh (Bob Jerome), 13 grandchildren, one great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. A Rosary and Mass will be held Monday October 8th at the Mt. Olivet Chapel, 12801 W. 44th Avenue in Wheat Ridge, CO at 10:30 a.m. There will be a viewing prior, beginning at 9:30. Burial will be at Ft. Logan National Cemetery ten days later on Thursday October 18th at 1:30 p.m.
