Dexter Holmquist Obituary
Dexter was born in Salt Lake City on December 27, 1994. He was a graduate of Kearns-Saint Ann and Judge Memorial Catholic High School and worked at Stein Eriksen Lodge, having a true passion for hospitality. Dexter attended several colleges working to find his way. He started playing lacrosse at seven years old and played through his senior year at Judge, where he was a Varsity Goalie. Dexter loved music and art. His love for his large extended family was immense and he enjoyed spending time with his young cousins.
Dexter's gentle soul and kind heart were always with him. He always looked for opportunities to ease the challenges of others and to support charities in our community. He was a kind man who brought a smile and a laugh, often insisting on doing things his way and making you feel good about spending time with him. In his 22 years, he brought joy and happiness to his family and friends, but for many years he worked to find peace with his own inner challenges. Our lives will always be brighter because of Dexter and our hearts will always be heavy with his loss. Our dear son will always be with us.
He leaves behind his brokenhearted mother Yo Holmquist; father Zane Holmquist and step-mother Robin Ventress Holmquist; grandparents Linda and Joe Jensen; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May 9th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East Salt Lake City, Utah. Guest are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday May 10th at 12:00 PM at Saint Ann Catholic Church, 450 East 2100 South, Salt Lake City, Utah, where friends may visit with the family beginning at 11:30 AM. Dexter will be laid to rest with his family at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please bring to the funeral a children's book to donate or mail books and donations to Kearns-Saint Ann School, 430 East 2100 South, Salt Lake City, 84115.

Dexter,
I have looked at your obituary over and over again, with intentions to leave you a message....I don't even know what to say. I keep on reminding myself that you really are gone, it just doesn't seem real! You sure did shine for your short time here. I can't stop thinking about your mom and dad and what they may be going through. I am so happy that we crossed paths and I was able to know a person so sweet, genuine, and loud lol! Your family must be devastated by your passing, and the emotions that they must be feeling Dex, watch over them, and let them feel your presence with your love, and guidance during this hard time. Let us all be touched by your fun, fancy self, and help us get through this Dexter. I hope you run into my mom sometime. Kiss her for me if you do..... Until we meet again,

Dear Yo,
We were so heartbroken to hear about Dexter. I remember Dexter as a fun-loving kid who ran around at the girls basketball games and then later in a leadership role to my younger kids at KSA. He always had that wonderful smile on his face and everyone around him couldn't help but smile too. We will keep all of you in our prayers. Eternal rest grant unto him Oh Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

Dear Zane and Family, I was deeply saddened to hear the tragic news of Dexter passing away. No parent can ever be prepared to face losing their child. Your pain and sadness must be unimaginable. Dexter was a lovely young man ,and I had the absolute pleasure of working with him at Stein Eriksen Lodge, where he showed pride ,passion and love for his work . His extraordinary kindness,happy attitude and beautiful face made everyone smile ...laugh ...and thoroughly enjoy being around him. I am truly sorry for your loss Zane. I keep sending messages that aren't appearing...ill try again. I have been a very good friend of Linda's for years. In fact she was there at my daughter's birth. My only child as well. To Yo, Zane and family...I know there are no words that can ever express the feeling of love and sorrow I feel with the news of your loss. Dexter was the most vibrant, sweet young man, and had a special way that made each one of his friends feel they were his best friend, I was always so proud to know that Dexter was a friend to my daughter. He was like a 'guardian angel' to his friends, always there to help with a smile or a kind word. He was never shy to ask if you needed anything. Dexter, you have no idea how much you will be missed.... Yo, he will be forever in your heart.Your motherly love shined through his eyes. The apple did not fall far from the tree, and the roots will continue to grow through his memory. In his life of only 22 years, there are so many "Dex-stories" thatI am sure one could fill a book. My heart goes out to you at the passing of Dexter. As one of his former teachers at Kearns-St. Ann School, I have so many fond memories of Dexter. Even after he left Kearns-St. Ann's and moved to Judge he would find the time to drop by and catch me up on all his high school adventures. Dexter has left us all with many fond and loving memories, and all the goodness that he has done for others. As he enters into the kingdom of heaven, surrounded by his angels, he has left behind his personal struggles and is now free to live in peace, contentment, and blissful happiness. As any good Lacrosse goalie would do, he is on high protecting his home team that he has left behind.

Dexter was loved by so many people and will be missed tremendously on this earth.
He was by far one of my Favorites when I worked at KSA! He was helping me with my job as early as the 3rd grade. By the time he was in 8th, I'd enter my office to see him on my computer, sometimes doing my job!!!! His smile was infectious and his heart golden! Run free and organize heaven in true Dexter fashion!

Dexter was a fabulous, vibrant person with a truly beautiful soul. Ne never failed to bring a smile to my face, or brighten my day. He will be remembered fondly by the innumerable people who's lives he touched with his presence. My most sincere condolences.
