ELAINE MARSDEN Obituary

Elaine Rampton Marsden 1912 ~ 2009 Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Elaine Rampton Marsden, passed away November 9, 2009 in Murray, Utah.Elaine was born February 18, 1912 in Bountiful, Utah a daughter of Charles Hyrum Rampton and Wilda Cash Rampton and spent her childhood in Bountiful, Utah moving at an early age to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she attended public schools (Emerson, Roosevelt Jr. High and East High School). She then attended the University of Utah where she met her husband Milo S. Marsden who described his first meeting her. "She was strikingly beautiful, intelligent and charming. I have loved her deeply ever since and always will." They were married June 13, 1931 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was a loving and supporting companion and their special love for each other continued throughout their married lives. Her husband died October 2, 1985. She has been widowed 24 years and lived an independent life until her death at age 97. Elaine was dedicated to her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother. She is a great example to all of us of thoughtfulness, kindness and courage. Elaine enjoyed working in her Church. She taught the Beehive Group in the Yalecrest Ward for several years. She served in the Monument Park Ward Mutual Presidency, a Teacher Trainer in Primary in the Murray 24th Ward and a Visiting Teacher for over 50 years. She enjoyed civic work. She was Treasurer of the Utah Symphony Guild, a hostess for the LDS Church serving at the Church Office Building and the Joseph Smith Memorial Building for seven years. She took pride in her home and garden. She loved to entertain and belonged to several groups of special friends, dinner groups and luncheon bridge groups, Times Club, Home Evening study groups and other social groups. She enjoyed traveling and vacations to Sun Valley, Jackson Hole, Colter Bay, Palm Springs, Hawaii, Europe and elsewhere. She was blessed with a spirit of contentment and optimism. She is survived by son Milo S. Marsden, Jr.; daughter-in-law Jacqueline Bourne Marsden; daughter Linda Babcock; and son-in-law Fred M. Babcock. She has seven grandchildren: Milo Steven Marsden (Karen Jensen Marsden); Mary Marsden, Julie Marsden Thomas (John Thomas); Amy Marsden Atkinson (Destry Atkinson); Lisa Babcock Verhaaren (Scott Verhaaren); David M. Babcock (Celeste Smith Babcock); and Laura Babcock Dunaway (Alan Dunaway). She has 15 great-grandchildren; Katherine, Annie and Milo Marsden; Claire and Mia Thomas; Jack and Charlie Atkinson; Jeffrey, Jayne and Chase Verhaaren; Ali and Porter Babcock; and Elise, Samantha Elaine and Isaac Dunaway. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 12 noon in the Murray 24th Ward, 755 E. Three Fountains Drive (5010 South), Murray, Utah. Friends may visit with the family at the Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah, Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. or at the ward chapel Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery. The family appreciates the warm, considerate care and compassion of Yolanda and Ruth of Care Source during her final months and to the staff at Care Source Care Center during her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her name to the University of Utah, c/o Arthur J.
