Fred Hamilton Obituary

Fred "A" Hamilton Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, August 13, 2015 at 9:27 a.m. at the Central Utah Veteran's Home in Payson, Utah. He was 94 years old.
Fred was born to Fred A. Hamilton and Mildred Eva Tinsley on December 14, 1920 in Los Angeles, California. He spent his youth in Boise, Pocatello and Nampa, Idaho. Fred spent three and a half years in the Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre. He was discharged in January of 1946. He married Dorothy Willian Wahl in the Logan Temple on March 21, 1946. Fred attended Utah State University for a short time, then he and Dorothy moved to Deer Lodge, Montana where he accepted employment in the printing business. After five years in Deer Lodge, Fred, Dorothy and family moved to Tooele, Utah where he ran a line-o-type for the next two years. He then accepted employment at the Farm and Home Builder's Supply, where he worked for the next 13 years. Fred then went to work for the Tooele Post Office. In January 1973 his wife, Dorothy, unexpectedly passed away.
Fred and Dorothy loved children. In addition to the four sons born to them, they legally adopted nine others and took in many foster children.
Fred married JoAnn Hibbert for "time" in the Jordan River Temple in 1982 and moved the remainder of his family to Bountiful. He was a good father to JoAnn's eight children and was very supportive of JoAnn. He continued to work for the Post Office in Salt Lake City and Bountiful, Utah. He retired in November 1996 at the age of 75 after 32 years of employment.
Fred was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions within the church. He served as the Sunday School Superintendent in Montana. He served as one of the seven Presidents of the Seventy in the North Tooele Stake in Tooele, Utah. He also served as a Seventy's Group Leader, Sunday School teacher and Home Teacher. While living in Bountiful, Fred taught Primary, served as a guide at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, and served as a volunteer at the Church Office Building's Family Search Library. He was the ward's High Priest Group Leader and served as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple for 10 years. He, JoAnn and their family were cast members and missionaries at the Hill Cumorah Pageant in New York. Fred loved church service and especially loved his service in the temple.
Fred is known for his love of the Gospel, his constant support of family, and for his kind and gentle approach to life. He loved gardening and being in the outdoors.
Fred and Dorothy had four boys born to them: Fred A (Peggy) Hamilton, Jr. (Skip), Ricke D. (Jean), Paul D. (Ann), Robin D. (Jane), and nine legally adopted children who were sealed to them in the temple, Pauline, Nora, Nellie, Carol, Burley (Kathleen), Penni, Jody, Merri Sharma, and Sean (Deena). After his marriage to JoAnn Hibbert, he was father to the Hibbert children: Dale, Jill (Paul) Buss, Steve, Mona (Panama) Agamez, Dan (Sheryl), Becky (Dave) Barnett, Bonnie (Mark) Pittman, Dave (Charlotte), and James (Diana) Boley.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Dorothy, his second wife, JoAnn, his daughter, Penni, and his four brothers, Marion (Velma), Dee (Vija), Kent, and Walter (Donna).
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful caretakers at the Central Utah Veteran's Home for their loving care of Fred over the past five months.
A viewing will be held at the Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N 400 E, Bountiful, Utah on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment, New Hillcrest Cemetery, located directly west of Deer Lodge, Montana. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.lindquistmortuary.com
