Mary Hall Obituary

Mary Lou (Peterson) Hall
1926 ~ 2013
Mary Lou (Peterson) Hall, our precious Mother, stepped ever so lightly through the veil, and took her beloved husband Earl's hand once again on Sunday, February 24.
Mom was born on November 27, 1926, to her parents Louis W. and Rosa Blanch Peterson in Emery, Utah. She attended schools nearby and enjoyed country life with her family that consisted of four children; she had three older brothers and was the only girl.
Following her graduation from South High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, she met her future husband E. Earl Hall on a blind date - it was love at first sight. Earl was just back home after serving his country in the Navy during World War II.
After a short courtship, they were married August 27, 1947, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and left soon after to California to start their new married life in Palm Springs.
Earl partnered with designer Mr. Horace Head and together purchased Palm Springs Florist. The day following their marriage Mary Lou and Earl set up a home in a small trailer with no cooling and it was a long hot summer. Mom always made her house a home; it didn't matter if it was a small trailer, or a beautiful well designed home, love always abounded there.
In the early days, Earl would peddle his bicycle and petite Mary Lou could be seen riding on the handle bars, carefully balancing the flower arrangement in her hands, as they made the deliveries. They always worked together; Earl ran the shop, and Mary Lou did all the books. Every holiday Mom would manage the office taking orders.
Mom was thrilled to become a mother, first to arrive was Stephen Earl, then followed fraternal twin sons, Brent James and Kent Brian and to complete the Hall family was their daughter, Susan Louise.
Mary Lou and Earl were some of the early "pioneers" of Palm Springs who helped grow a branch into a ward and then helped construct and raise funds for the building of the first Palm Springs chapel.
Mom was very active throughout her days in California, serving faithfully and diligently in the programs of the church. She always supported Earl including when he was the Bishop and patriarch. Mary Lou loved good books and was very well read.
Her life and home were filled with love and you felt it the minute you stepped through the door. She was welcoming to all and you always left feeling of her acceptance, concern and that you were truly cared about and fed. Mary Lou always took time to listen and offer advice if asked, she wasn't ever boastful, but so very proud of her family and all their accomplishments. She was our greatest cheerleader!
Mom was always at her best, the perfect daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandma, aunt, teacher and friend. An excellent cook, Mary Lou was delighted to entertain her family and friends, where there was always room for one or two more. They opened their home for wedding receptions and parties. She was the best hostess ever and made sure that every detail was carried out.
Mom moved to Lindon, Utah, to live with her daughter Susan and son-in-law Randy, after suffering a stroke and following the passing of her husband Earl in November 2009. Mary Lou left us with a legacy of love, service and beauty. We will miss you Mom!
Preceded in death by husband E. Earl, and son Kent. Survived by son Stephen (Julie) Hall, South Jordan Utah; Brent (Dru) Hall, Palm Springs, California; Susan (Randy) Hoyt, Lindon, Utah; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

My deepest condolences for the loss of this wonderful, dear, sweet, kind, and caring lady. I knew Mrs. Hall from when I worked at Security Pacific Bank and she and Mr. Hall were customers. They were both charming and lovely people. R.I.P.

Hello Brent, I don't know if you remember me from P.S.H.S., but I just wanted to send my regards to you and your family, in this time of joy and sadness. Sadness because of your loss, but joy because she was able to live as long as she did. I know your family, friends and faith will see you through this difficult time. In 2014, it will be 30 years since graduation, it is hard to believe, but it will soon be a reality, unfortunately.

Take Care,
