Ottella Tanner Obituary

Ottella Watson Tyndall Devey  Tanner 1916 ~ 2003  Ottella Watson Tyndall Devey Tanner passed away November 21, 2003, from complications of a long-term illness and old age at the East Lake Care Center in Provo. Ottella was born June 28, 1916, in Thomas, Idaho. She married Clarence Tyndall in the Salt Lake Temple September 7, 1938. They had three sons. She graduated from Brigham Young University in August of 1959 and started teaching in the College of Family Living that fall. Her career included overseeing the Head Start Program in several states for the Federal Government. She taught until December of 1979, when she retired. Clarence passed away July 7, 1979. Ottella married E.H. Devey December 15, 1979, in the Provo Temple. They served a mission to Birmingham, Alabama, in 1983-84, and enjoyed working in the Provo Temple together. E.H. died in April 1993. Ottella married Dr. Wilmer W. Tanner October 26, 1999, and they spent the last four years together. Ottella enjoyed her service to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was valiant all of her life. She loved family and friends and belonged to many social groups including Entre Nous, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Sunday Night Group, and was a member of Alpha Tau Chapter of Omicron Nu Society. Ottella will be missed by her husband, Dr. Wilmer W. Tanner of Provo; three sons, Stephen C. Tyndall, Douglas J. Tyndall, and J Tyndall; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The Wilmer Tanner family will also greatly miss her. The following is a quote from her husband Dr. Wilmer Tanner, with whom she spent the last four wonderful years of her life: "The last few years have been happy, fun years. We have taken care of each other, traveled a bit, enjoyed our life at the University and taken part in the festivities as they have come along. Our trip through mortality has been great and as it should be, a few tears and loads of fun and the satisfaction of much success." Services will be at the Oak Hills 4th Ward Chapel at 925 East North Temple Dr., Provo, Utah, Wednesday, November 26th 11 a.m. Friends may call Tuesday night at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center, in Provo from 6-8 p.m., or one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Provo City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Bean Museum at BYU.
