Peter Eustis Obituary


Peter Eustis PORTSMOUTH - Peter Eustis died Jan, 24, 2008, at home surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 4, 1923, the son of Frederic A. Eustis and Edith Tileston Eustis of Milton, Mass. He attended Milton Academy and graduated from Fountain Valley School in Colorado Springs, Colo., and Harvard College, where he majored in chemistry. He served as a first lieutenant in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He worked for Virginia Chemicals for 40 years, serving as an officer and director. Subsequently, he had a second career as a business consultant. He was committed to helping his community and was involved in many local charities and community organizations, including St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, The United Way, Rotary, The Portsmouth Port and Industrial Commission and Norfolk Academy. He was chosen the First Citizen of Portsmouth in 1983 for his exceptional and dedicated service to the citizens of Portsmouth and Tidewater. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anne Duncan Eustis; four children, Frederic Augustus Eustis III, Robert Duncan Eustis, Helen Eustis Ederer and Anne Eustis Hough; four grandchildren; and a brother, William Ellery Channing Eustis of Venice, Fla. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. in St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to EVMS-Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology, P.O. Box 5, Norfolk, VA 23501. Loving Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.lovingfuneralhome.com The family is grateful to the Ghent Family Practice Center and Eastern Virginia Medical School for their care and help and to the many excellent care givers for all of their love and kindness. Peter Eustis will be remembered as a true gentleman who was determined to improve the quality of life of all of those around him.

Mr. Eustis,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the USN during WW II fighting the Japanese in the Pacific and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
