Sharon Ostler Obituary

Sharon Scott Ostler, the only daughter of native Utahns Jennie Randall and George Lawson Scott, was born in Portland, Oregon on June 12, 1933 and left us in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 23, 2015. She honored her father who was the Northwestern Regional Manager of the International News Service, and was the LDS Church Stake President in Portland. She learned well from her mother who served on the General Relief Society Board from 1959 to 1970. Having grown up in the LDS Church, Sharon never wavered in her firm testimony of its eternal principles.
At a tender age, she had the desire to become a nurse. She took the pre-nursing class at BYU and then graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. On August 24, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple she married David S. Ostler, a Korean War Veteran for whom she waited while he finished his LDS Mission to the Swiss/Austrian Mission. She supported Dave as he completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees in business. In the Boston, Massachusetts area she worked as a Private Duty Nurse until the arrival of their first child. During that time she also served as a Counselor in the New England States Mission YWMIA. During the past 56 years in the Salt Lake area, she served in all of the LDS Church Auxiliaries, including three Relief Society Presidencies, one of which was in the Holladay Health Care Branch near their former home in Holladay.
Sharon maintained a wonderful and supportive home for the family as Dave was active in his numerous business ventures and political activities. Her fun personality and many talents enriched everyone. For several years she enjoyed serving as the Information Officer for the Utah State House of Representatives in the annual legislative sessions.
She spent her life in the service of others; caring for their spiritual and physical needs. During the past 16 years she provided hours of attentive care to their many dear friends and neighbors at Terrace Falls Condominiums in downtown Salt Lake. Her lifetime of service also included an Inner City Church Service Mission and as a Temple Ordinance Worker.
She is survived by her husband and children: David V (Cindy) Park City, UT, Cynthia (John) Shipley, Tremonton, UT, Suzanne (Stephen) Shippen, Alpine, UT, Randall S (Zully) Miami, FL, Emily (Henry) Glasheen, SLC, UT, Christopher T (Willow) Santa Rosa, CA, 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, Brothers: George C. Scott (Marge) Portland, OR and David R. Scott (Rayna) Sandy, UT.
Friends and family may call at the Ensign Stake Center 135 A Street, Salt Lake City on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the same location from 9:45 AM until 10:45 AM prior to the Funeral Services at 11:00 AM. Interment and grave side services will be held at 3:00 PM at the Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi, UT. Anderson Funeral Home Nephi, UT www.andersonfh1866.com

Dear David and family
Within one week we have lost two dear friends from our days in Hollday 8th Ward. The promises given by the gospel of Jesus Christ regarding this life and the life hereafter become more real as we ourselves approach the time to cross the veil. We celebrate the Sharon's noble life with you even though we can't be there in person.
