Stanley West Obituary

1939 ~ 2014
After fighting Pulmonary Fibrosis for two years, Stan lost his courageous battle on July 12, 2014, at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah, at age 74. Stan never gave in to the disease but tried to live his life positively with enthusiasm. Stan had a joyous reunion with his parents, Stanley and Gertrude West along with his sister, Janet, who were there to welcome him to his heavenly home. His surviving brother, Tom, lives with his wife, Sue, in Mesquite, Nevada.
Stan was born at the LDS Hospital, in Salt Lake City, Utah, November 10, 1939. From 1960/62, Stan served as a missionary for the LDS Church, in the North British Mission. He also served his country for six years in the 328 Hospital corp, for the Army Reserves. He married the love of his life, Annette Sorensen, in the Logan LDS Temple, May 3rd,1963. They celebrated 51 years together at a Hawaiian Luau organized by their daughter, DeNeise, for family and friends. For the majority of his life he worked in the retail business, but retired after working 20 years, as a UTA bus operator.
Stan had a great sense of humor and was known for his laugh. He loved reading and learning and could talk about any subject. No one could tell a story like Stan. The party started when Stan arrived! He loved jazz music. He loved miniature everything especially trains. The mountains were his second home and he loved backpacking, fishing, camping and storytelling around the campfire. He loved Hawaii and visited with Annette many times. Hawaii held a special place in their hearts. Though he traveled many places, his home and family were the center of his life. Weekly dating throughout their 51 years together kept them close and instilled the same in their kids.
He is survived by his wife Annette and their children, DeNeise, David, and Richard. They have nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A Memorial for Stan will be held at: Winder West Stake Center Chapel, 4551 South 1200 East, Salt Lake City, Utah, Saturday, August 9th, at 2:30pm Dedication of grave site: Elysian Burial Gardens, across the street from the Chapel. To the West Family,

My condolence to the family, I have had the pleasure working with Stan at Utah Transit Authority and about 5 years ago we both realized we were neighbors. I enjoyed seeing Stan at work, and going home I would see Stan working in his yard. I will miss his smile and wave to me as I drove by. Please know Stan will be missed but not forgotten.

Annette and family and Tom and family: Tim and I were so sad to hear of Stan's passing. We were playmates in our childhood. We were in a picture together when he was two and I was three. Maybe you have seen it on the light shade Tom made for Uncle Stan and Aunt Gertrude. We were also so sad to read of the passing of your dear sister Janet a short time ago. My brother West sends his love as well. Love, Tim and Lois Draper

I served with Elder West in Newcastle in 1961. He was our District Leader. A great guy. I remember his smile and optimistic attitude.
Please accept my condolences.
