Destrehan, LA
Thomas Robert Kovacevich of Destrehan, LA passed away peacefully on January 20, 2017 at the age of 85. He was born October 8, 1931 in Des Moines to Matthew and Kathyrn Bubon Kovacevich. Tom grew up in Ankeny and graduated from Ankeny High School.
Tom served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He earned a Chemical Engineering degree from Iowa State University.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Audrey Danti Kovacevich and his children Steven (Sheryl); Kathryn; his grandchildren Lindsey (Josh) Riley; Taylor Kovacevich; great-grandchildren Grayson and Madeline Riley, step-grandchildren and step-greatgrandchildren.
Tom is also survived by his brothers Charles (Cathy) Kovacevich and James (Sue) Greene. His sister-in-law Judy Brown and brother-in-law Robert Danti, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom is predeceased by his parents and his two brothers Jack and Michael.
Tom worked for BASF Corporation in Michigan, Louisiana and New York. He retired from BASF after 29 years, and moved to Destrehan, LA where he worked for Hoist & Crane Service Group until retiring in 1993.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tom's nephews: John, Bill, Tim, Matt Kovacevich; Michael and Anthony Danti; Steve Smith; and Joe Husack.
Inurnment will be at a later date in Beaver Catholic Cemetery in Granger.

My sincere condolences from LaVerne J Lentz. As I think back to my childhood we lived east of Carney - to the "T" in the road and then the first place south. North of us lived Kathryn Kovacevich and her boys. They were dear friends of my family and myself. We moved to NE Iowa in 1946 which was a sad experience at that time for me. However we adjusted and have had a wonderful life in this area. Through the years I have thought of the Kovacevich family often and the many memories we had together. After reading of the obituary of Thomas in the Des Moines Register, I decided to communicate to see if possible - could Tom have been my old friend? I see Jack is also deceased - hear again my Condolences. With love and Concern to a family I possibly knew.
