C. Cooley Obituary

Dr. C. Ewing Cooley
April 28, 1935 - April 1, 2023
Arlington, Texas - Clifford Ewing Cooley, 87, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023 in Tyler, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 7, at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Arlington.
Ewing was born on April 28, 1935 in McKinney, Texas, to Waldron and Velma Snider Cooley. After graduating from Denton High School, he earned BA, MS, and EdD degrees from North Texas State University. He also received his MRE from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. While in college he met his wife, Jeannine, and they raised three daughters together. He worked at Dallas Baptist College, serving as dean of students, professor of psychology, and head of the learning center. He then established a private counseling business and never completely retired from this vocational calling.
Among friends, Cooley was respected for caring for his wife who lived with disabilities for many years. He was honored for over 50 years of Bible Study leadership, primarily teaching the Etc. class at First Baptist Arlington. He enjoyed spending time outdoors with family in East Texas.
Dr. Cooley is survived by his daughters Robbyn Steele and husband Gary, Kathy Cooley, and Kristy Brown and husband Phil; grandchildren Taylor Steele and wife Merrick, Grady Steele and wife Kaitlyn, Sara Steele, Kerry Looper and husband Eddie, Jenna Carruth and husband Garret, Tim Brown and wife Gabriella, and Amy Brown; and great-grandchildren Caleb, Andrew, Beckett, Brazos, Jackson, Eliza, Aureana, and Damian.
For those wishing to honor the memory of Dr. Cooley, the family suggests a gift to the Samaritan Fund at First Baptist Church Arlington or the LinkED Sliding Scale Fund. www.link-ed.org

Dr. Cooley was one of the most insightful, caring, and helpful people I have ever worked with! He made immediate connections with clients and colleagues at LinkED! He was a ray of sunshine and always had an encouraging and positive word to say!! We will miss him dearly but his spirit will always be with us!!
With fond memories, Dege Leedy

Dr. Cooley was the heart and soul of Fourth Street Project. His balanced observations of both parents and children (and the staff) helped us help hundreds of children. Cooley was my mentor, a good man I admired so much. So many lives were made richer by Cooley's presence in this world.

I am very grateful to have worked with Dr. C. Ewing Cooley professionally in the earliest years of Fourth Street Project, Inc. (his brain-child) in Arlington. He was a mentor and stabilizer in our work with children & families especially focused in a unique setting where ADHD, learning, social & behavioral differences in children were respected and worked with. I served with him in that setting for 13 years and also developed a great respect for him as a Christian and for the care and devotion in love of his lovely wife.
