1930-2004

SPRINGFIELD - Chanel Joseph Parent, Sr., 73, of Springfield, died on Friday, February 27, 2004. He was born in Hamlin, Maine to the late Benoit and Marie (Marque) Parent. He was a self-employed carpenter working with the Springfield Redevelopment Association for 2 years, C. Parent and sons for 2 years, Jean Godbout for 5 years, Philip Beaulieu and sons for 2 years, Johnson and sons 3 years and Valley Real Estate of 5 years. He served with the United States Army during World War II, from 1955-1957, attaining the rank of private first class. Joseph was an avid candlepin bowler and bowled with the Friday Night Social League. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eleanor P. (Jalbert) of Springfield, 3 sons, Chanel "Joey" Parent, Jr. and his wife, Chris, Robert "Dan" Parent and his wife, Annmarie and Richard P. Parent and Susan Gouvan, a daughter, Marilyn "Angel" Parent and Edward Avery, all of Springfield, 3 brothers, Gerald Parent of Hartford, CT, Fernand Parent of Avon Park, FL and Rene Parent of Kissimmee, FL, a sister, Marcella Parent of Syracuse, NY, 8 grandchildren, Mikey, Tabitha, Richard, Brian, Amanda, Joshua, Nikki and Bobby, and 2 great-grandchildren, Samantha and David. He was predeceased by a son, George N. Parent in June 17, 2002. His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. from Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Rd. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Plumtree Rd. Burial will be held at a later date. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions in his name may be directed to Baystate Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 50 Maple St, P.O. Box 9058, Springfield, MA 01102-9058.
